So yeah.. Feel free to tell me how much it sucks

ph00tbag wrote:On another tone, Trap is Hip Hop. This, you've stated, and I will not dispute. But Hip Hop is EDM. Sure, the artists that were first making it were inspired by Soul, Funk, and Blues. But look further. The artists who made Techno were influenced by Motown. The the artists who first made House were influenced by Disco and Funk. The artists who first made Jungle were influenced by Reggae. That's all well and good for talking about where these genres come from, but EDM is music that is made with sequencers, samplers and synthesizers. Hip Hop falls into this description neatly.
I don't understand it: I've told you that you're totally free to champion pretty much all of EDM as being rooted in black musical movements, and you think that labeling Trap as part of that heritage is appropriation. It's inexplicable. Can you explain this to me?

Freewave wrote:I wouldnt really say that Hip Hop is part of EDM except in the loosest sense. Hip Hop is its own entity and culture. Sure it is founded on sampling, samplers, and beat makiing which isnt that different from EDM and yes you can dance to it. The same breakbeats that made jungle and drum & bass were used actively in hip-hop. Dance music as a whole whether its Disco, House, Drum & Bass, or Techno was overwhelmingly stemming from black music culture I will agree (tho Trance is the whitest EDM style i know of) until it got bigger and more european.
Biggest issues i saw with this thread is that people were wanting to make Trapstep (EDM with trap elements and no rapping) and still call it Trap Music.

It's honestly that simple. It's not too hard to understand.
