Opinions on the Bluesnowball

Postby ceresbane » 30 Sep 2012 13:46

It's got great reviews from the voice acting community.

But recently I've gained a bit of an interest in music, singing mainly (we've had an on again and off again relationship).

I'm trying to record a calmer, more melancholic version of mandopony's emo-eque I am no hero. Generally sang with the same melody but with minor variations to fit a calmer tone.

But it has no backtrack. By a mix of wants and neccecity. I want to record the vocals just right so it can stand alone.

Ok, that's a lie it's meant to be sang with faint sounds of battle (but you get the kind of singing I mean right).

I have found that it can easily work with higher pitched vocals (since to the ear that can be a cleaner sound) but the character for this has the voice of a normal male.

Plus I'm not 100% if it's just my vocals or the mic or if I'm just not doing anything to clean up the clarity of the sound.

I guess I'll stop recording today and make a soundcloud, so you guys can have a listen. I'll edit this later.

For now can I get some opinions on the bluesnowball so I can get some initial ideas.

Well, I had a snowball myself until it broke. Someone had apparently jammed the cord in wrong snapping the pins... I have a Blue Yeti now, and I must say, comparing the two, the Yeti wins.

It's about 50 dollars more than the snowball, but I would reccomend getting that over the Snowball. Unless however you desperately need a mic and want one. Not saying the snowball is bad, it's just that the Yeti picks up less BG noise.

So this is what I say: Snowball is a great mic, but if you would like to go the extra mile, pick up a Yeti.

here is a mic test I want you guys to hear.

Can this vocal stand alone during a scene or does it need some back track to help fill the atmosphere?

Plus is the sound quality decent enough?

Is there a way to clean up the clarity of the sound?

Wow...you are awesome at singing.

I like the sound quality (but that's just me), maybe halfway you can add some sort of harmony and sing a little louder.

I'd recommend a pop-filter and then basically sing your heart out
