The hugging/venting thread

Sports, politics, movies, videogames, questionable hobbies, photos from your family vacation, etc. Talk about stuff that isn't ponies or music. But do try to stay on topic and respectful of alternate opinions.

That sucks, admins should stand up for each other. While forums are designed for people they can't take advantage of that and target admins when they want to protest. That's the sign of a bad forum if they allow fellow moderators to be victimized by users before and after the event. You should talk with the head admin and get that addressed or find a better place to give your free labor. If you were wrong and triggered the whole event then learn from it but the main mod should not let that guy go on a warpath after the event unchecked.

funny thing... heh... well im not an admin i kinda just weasled my way into being able to ban and such. Needless to say, the admin is a TOTAL dick anyways, then i come here and see people like makkon(?) who treat people right, involved in community, and generally awesome ^_^

Well (just saw this thread) something i wanted to get off my chest is i suck at music making. I can't master, i can't make proper melodies, and all my stuff is generic. I try real hard with ableton but yet nobody cares. People still like to look at my old gband stuff.

Nobody has ever provided me an answer to this question. Why does everyone like something i made a long time ago that only took like 3 hours but nobody appreciates the stuff i make that i actually put more time into? Why..

I need a hug
Lets make some music whether its trance, dnb, ambient, or something dark, I CAN DO IT :D

I think it has to do with learning the new program. When your using a familiar program, you can just drop everything into place without thinking. I can rip out a "decent" sounding orchestral track in my old MIDI sequencer in 30 mins to an hour, but when it comes to FL and learning a whole new genre, ACK!
Just keep at it, you'll get better.

Its not that. I have gotten pretty good at able so far but i still need to learn things like glitching. Put its the fact that nobody cares about my stuff that i put effort into. Its strange. They only hog onto my old stuff.

Well it may have been easier when there were less musicians and it was easier to get noticed then it is now. I know I've struggled recently with whether my new stuff was going to get noticed or just ignored now that i've been here so long. I wasn't sure if people saw enough creativity or skills to justify sticking around or tuning when i release music. For all those people who didn't become "popular" brony musicians it can be tough to justify continuing. But that's what you do or you don't.

It does suck that you've decided to yank everything from view although i see they are unlisted vs deleted. I guess the answer is even if you get a batch of subs whether that's 200 or whether it's 400 you still need to keep pushing to get heard and to improve and variate your style enough that your new tracks improve or vary enough from your old material. Getting in the triple digits on youtube might seem like a huge amount of popularity to new musician but that's just a steady increase over time if anything and that's always combined with a lot of hard work and a lot of luck (and maybe some EQD features early on).

I'd recommend while you consider your next move that you maybe investigate and improve your past. Take your past tracks, compile them in a bandcamp album, and possibly remaster and remix the old ones. You'll be able re-evaluate what you've done to this point, improve what you didn't do as well (and can remix it), and make either a final statement as brony musician or a place to start chapter 2. If you FEEL energized then get back in the game and make music again. My pal Glitchhog released like 4 releases on bancamp when he went on hiatus and while I haven't seen him return it was a new way to see his old tracks be seen by a new audience (Bandcamp) and to review and make a statement of what he did during those many months of work. Try to collaborate with others on new tracks to get some input on how to improve and develop in what you do and perhaps be exposed to different brony audiences that weren't aware of who you were the first time. I do feel terrible i didn't have the time to collab with you weeks back but that's my fault not yours. The biggest thing is to get heard as I don't think people are ignoring or preferring your old material, I think they are just not seeing or hearing your music in the first place. If you stay isolated as a musician and don't collab, remix, hang out, or get actively involved in the community it's easy to be forgotten or not noticed by other musicians or brony music lovers. Do get your videos listed back on your youtube as erasing them will definitely diminish any chances of people discovering it or remembering it at all. Really consider restoring your music with an album and perhaps relaunching after that break and with some new direction and ideas. There are ALWAYS loads of people here who will collab in a heartbeat. If you can't glitch stuff and want to get a rough track together and hand it off to some who CAN do that and complete it. Collabs often allow you to counter a weakness with someone else's strength and for them to notice things you can improve up on and do better. Also have one alias (everytime you post on here i forget you are CK!!) and get your accounts or avatars solidified around that. I did the whole pon-3/freewave thing for months until i decided that enough was enough and to stick with the one that people called me by. Just realize that SO many people here have had the exact same problems you have.

I was all sad and pessimistic this week when I was listening to my Zune and one of my WIP's showed up on shuffle (bad idea, I know) and I just realized how bad they sounded.

*dry chuckle*

Still, I've got bigger things to worry about.

Venting, alrighty then.

Here is a feel that you probably have never had.

Very recently the people who originally inspired me to make music, now dislike me. It is my fault really, i kept annoying them with my messages on youtube and what not. Some of the people that i think dislike me (key word think(because i am not 100% sure the dislike me)) think that i am a whiny 12 year old, because of a few allcaps comments. I was angry. They caught me in the wrong place.

1 thing that i try to do all the time is to be humble and try not to annoy people, but i end up doing the exact opposite. I dunno, kind of a selfish thing, i care about what people think about me.

Just wanted to get that off my chest, most of this probably makes no sense. meh.

I just realized that everything in this post is poorly written, bleh.

Know that feel...Kinda.... A lot of eqd prelisteners haven't been wanting my music on the site because of how I reacted during the EMC. (equestria music contest)
That and the way I've been acting in general up to this point. I shouldn't put whatever on the internet and forget about it I know, but I've basically been in solitary confinement for the past 2 years and it's REALLY not healthy for me. There isn't much I can do about it though so I've been trying to tough it out. I get it though. A lot of people really don't like me either.

Cmon plz don't post about a specific person just to get a response or complain about them. Again that's not allowed on this forum or thread. If he won't respond to a pm then just move on. Not everyone will like you.

I, on the other hand, hate EqD because of things like this. Can't we have a good brony music rss that just lists what tracks bronies make that are pony (in their eyes)?

Fucking health problems...

So I got a tooth pulled- can't afford to do anything beyond that, lucky to have even got a voucher for having that much done for me. And this means I can drink coffee again, because I was dealing with the tooth pain by cutting out coffee and salt and basically stopping my blood pressure from getting high at all.

Trouble is, an old pony like me can have other issues, ones that trigger off LOW blood pressure. I've been getting eye pain some mornings. This morning it was so bad I couldn't open my right eye at all for a while. What with my uncle having glaucoma, my dad having diabetes, the pain, the blurriness, the way it triggers off things like nocturnal blood pressure dips- it's pretty much gotta be acute narrow angle glaucoma. It's an emergency, but unless Vermont comes through for me again I can't do a thing about it besides control the 'low blood pressure' triggering conditions, and every time I wake up with my eye so painful I can't open it, I risk going permanently blind. If it was both eyes I'd really panic.

FUCKING health problems. One thing about it, both reading and music saved my life when I was younger- it sucks having reading become more difficult, but I can always turn more heavily to music. And I'm going to stretch out being not-blind for as long as I possibly can, whether I can afford health care or not (signs point to not)

Those of you who are gettin' things like love and attention from places like EqD (the manestream, in other words), enjoy having a happy audience for your creations and working ears and eyes. Those of you who like me stay pretty under the radar, enjoy having working ears and eyes.

I'm going to go watch a poni episode (just on the laptop because my PS3 (for watching poni on the big screen) busted and I can't afford to replace it either) while I still have working eyes, and then I'm going to fool around with more guitar tones because I can probably count on having working ears for a good long while, whatever else happens. Now I'm glad I haven't spent too much time with loud guitar amps and live drums...

YOLO but guys- it wears out, it doesn't just blow out. Don't be ashamed to protect your hearing at things like clubs lest you end up like me later on- falling back on your hearing in the end, and what if it was broken when you needed it? I now KNOW my eyes are gonna go first. Ain't subtle.

Vent over.

EQD is just kind of weird, they seem lenient for art submissions (aka my stuff got it) and they're super hard on musicians. I was talking to Cluttershy on EFR IRC, and it seems that they turned down "Never the Way," which is, in my opinion, a really good song.
