What DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) do you use?

Postby Joaftheloaf » 27 Jul 2012 00:17

I'm wondering what people use to record their stuff, because I can't seem to find one that works for me... or maybe I'm just to stupid to figure out how they work :D
DAW: FL Studio 10

I use FL Studio! It's not perfect for orchestral music, but I can't really afford anything else, and I find it nice to look at and easy to use.

Cubase 6.5...love it!
I also have Ableton Live, but rarely use it.

Currently FL for electronic stuff - waiting for Bitwig though, if it turns out to be Ableton Live in a better looking interface, I will probably switch to it.

For actual real recordings of instruments and complex compositions I'd use Cubase myself. I'd use it for electronic as well if I had MIDI keyboard and knowledge of how to play it, since it's piano roll isn't exactly a gem. It's a good thing if you know how to make a track in all major DAW's, since sometimes you just need something, that is in another DAW. :)

I use a bunch, but I can say FL is the best I've used so far and I ALWAYS use it,
Easy to navigate, Low CPU (well compared to Sonar and Reason)
It also has nice synths that come with it, it's got everything!

But I haven't tried Abelton yet, the only DAW people think it's good that I haven't tried before.

Ableton Live Lite 8. I need an upgrade from Lite, but I might just get FL Studio Signature Bundle instead (because it's affordable).

LMMS, because I have no money and refuse to steal multi-hundred dollar pieces of software.

Software: I'm original, so i use Sunvox. I used to use LMMS, but the crashing drove me insane.

Just like is says below: Reason for sketching electronic stuff and Sonar for EVERYTHING else, including mixing/mastering.

It takes a while to find that perfect fit. Cubase was always a close second for me, but Cakewalk/Sonar was always there when I came crying back.

And reason? Reason is just fun. I can't help it!

Try 'em all, if you can, and like WavesOfParadox, don't discount Reaper because it's cheap. It's a great program.

Currently Ableton Live but likely soon to be Bitwig because the beta has been quite good so far.

I'm using LMMS
works great, even though it lacks some Features I would like... and it crashes constantly...

I may upgrade to Ableton or Qbase at some point. I make Orchestra and Chiptune Stuff, and use mostly VST's and Samples.
I make different kinds of music, often get told that It sounds like something for a Video Game because I make only instrumentals, never had a chance to make music for an actual game. I would love to.

Reaper, although I haven't bought it yet (because I'm a cheapskate that's abusing what's effectively an infinite free trial). It's only $60, too (unless you make more than $20,000 annually off it), which makes it one of the cheapest DAWs out there, even though it can do everything more expensive software could.
I make music because I'm not mediocre at everything yet.
