Huh. Ironic now that you watch MLP.
A childhood friend of mine owns a horse, who I've met a few times, and my grandfather owns a farm with a few horses, who I've also met a few times. My university also raises Arabian horses (on account of a decades-old contract), and I've met a few of them since my ex's job is to take care of them.
Other than a few friendly encounters, nothing really.

My family has owned horses since before i was born and we were members of the local equestrian club in another country. I even went on some overnight trips and marches. My legs hurt like fuck afterwards though.
I loved horses but i get really nervous riding them. I can only ride them if the saddle has a hook and if they don't trot. Most of the times it just ends up me sitting on the horse.

Look at that fluffy bastard. Adorable.

I have yet to see a person trot. Even in Iceland.

Things get nasty though when a horse gets scared of something and you're on it's back. One time this happened and the horse blasted off at full speed throwing me on it's neck. I was hanging there for maybe two rounds around the place and finally managed to get up and pull the reins. That was enough rodeo for a lifetime for me
Trillionage wrote:God, i can't ride a horse without a hooked saddle much less bareback. I had an awful experience when i was a kid. I was riding with my sister around a small palm tree, nothing big, but then the horse starts galloping and since i was siting on the flank i started jumping with the horse.vI thought i was going to fall and now because of that i can only ride a horse alone.

Trillionage wrote:No, but it certainly left a scar on me. I still ride horses when i can (i have been in parades and long, 5-8 trips before the age of 13) but i'm still very rattled. I rarely make the horse accelerate. Funny thing is that after my first long trip i wanted to be a jockey.

The latest horse experience I have was around last Halloween, when one little girl that I saw had a real life pony (She was dressed as Jessie from Toy Story) and I got to pet it. I think its name was Butterscotch, so called because of its brown and white color scheme.
You should try to overcome your fears. It's normal to be scared sometimes, even I was reluctant to ride after one serious accident (horse tripped and squished my leg between a wall and it's body). But you just need to make yourself realize that it's unrational and doesn't help you at all. It's just preventing you from enjoying really cool things.
Falling is quite rare and 99% of cases falling doesn't even cause any injuries. Looking at statistics riding is actually one of the safest sport ever. Besides, they say that you need to fall 100 times, before you're a good rider I've got 95 times left :S
Trillionage wrote:The problem is that i can't keep with the horse's galloping rhythm and the constant hopping while on the saddle can get a bit painful and disorienting after a bit.
