The good thing about music... is that it is subjective!

the4thImpulse wrote:First off the idea of this remix (all the work in it) is fantastic (I think its better then mine) and I will break it down below.
The intro is great, nothing groundbreaking in the genre of course but well crafted. The build is well mixed in with the intro and I didn't really see it coming when it did (which I like). The drop is good (its hard to mess up one bar) but what it drops into feels somewhat underwheling compared to the build and I hear a lot of artists doing this in all sorts of electronic music. Its seems as they have mastered the build up and the drop but then they lose their energy because there is so much (too much) happening in the build. I don't know how to help with this but try to listen from :55 -1:05 and listen for any change in energy as I dont hear it and its that lack of change that I believe hinders the track.
The rest of the track is all great I think its very well mixed, you have a lot of great work with the stereo image which makes listening very enjoyable. I think in the master mix you could bring out the highs a bunch (a bandaxall starting at ~1kHz and peaking at 3dB can help enourmously) Masterings main goal is too bring up the overall volume of the track to a normal level so it plays well with other music and this song is a bit quite compared to 'professional' dubstep but nothing to worry about.
Hope this helps

When I analyse it myself I think the problem lies in the spastic changes of sounds (as you said), the lack of punch and raw power. I guess it has a lot to do with dynamics and in actually keeping the buildup quieter than the drop. (Just a thought)
What is a bandaxall? I'm guessing it's a specific kind or type of EQ but I couldn't find any good explanation of it on google.
the4thImpulse wrote:I think there is more to it then simply lowering the volume of the drop and al I could advise is experiment until something good happens and then remember what you did to make it work.
the4thImpulse wrote:It very simple to recreate, the curve starts at one point and continually rises past another. This example has more of a s curve to it but thats no problem. I use this on all my tracks during mastering as it really brings out the hats and snares and makes the track much brighter sounding.
Here is the article that taught me about those curves and the site has a lot of other great production tips
