The hugging/venting thread

Also - I'm really sick of people (namely teachers) explaining shit slowly to me. They hear the term 'mental disability' next to my name and assume that means that I'm incapable of communicating on their level or something. I spent years of my life learning that, to be lumped into category a or b with no middle ground like that is just insulting. Not just to me, I've lost count of the amount of people I've met with this same problem. Surely if there's a group of uncategorized people the next logical step would be to make a fucking category so god knows how many people can go to class without being talked at like they're mentally incapable.

It's really annoying. It has no effect on mental capabilities, only social ones.

Trained disability workers don't seem to know this.

The only effect that it should get from it is the ability to get a disability pension. Which I'm still refusing to get.

That explains why you get so many underqualified people.

I've literally asked for help with math homework from some of these people and been told that they don't know math. A third of the disability support faculty can't assist with highschool level maths when they WORK IN A HIGHSCHOOL.

Wow, Biggs, that sucks. Do you know if they tell the teachers that you have Aspergers or do they just see "mental disability" next to your name and assume the worst? If it's the latter, it's somewhat excusable (until they get to know you of course), but if it's the former there's no excuse. You should actually confront them about that.

Now my turn.

My fucking electronic music teacher. I swear to God, this guy has it out for me or something. Every song I've shown to him has been met negatively, even though given the equipment we have to work with (Garageband) they're quite good.

The first song was a 108 BPM moombah-inspired piece that was all percussion (with some cool lo-fi electricity samples). He said it was extremely repetitive and boring (note the emphasis on 'extremely'). I had to make it fairly repetitive to meet the 3 minute requirement, but it was most certainly not 'extremely' repetitive. Plus I didn't have a clear AB melodic form, which is apparently something that matters. I didn't know this, since he never fucking said it. Another problem he had with it was, stupidly enough, the fact that it "didn't start at the beginning of a measure". Which is true, but only because I bumped it back a bar to make room for a small intro, so it was still snapped to the grid just fine. I really don't know why he cared so much.

The second song went a bit better. It was a 170 BPM banjo/dnb piece with some heavy distortion, featuring a calm and atmospheric intro that suddenly dropped into banjos after some disc scratching abruptly ends the calm intro. He had a problem with the intro and with the heavy overdrive I used on the banjo (and later the drums, but he didn't hear that part).

The third song (and most recent; I need to finish 5 more of these by Friday, and I don't have that class on Thursday ;_;) went far worse than both of the others. It used an 'oud', which is apparently a Middle Eastern instrument that I've never heard of, which of course was heavily distorted. Oh yeah, and it was at 190 BPM. He didn't really have a problem with the distorted Middle Eastern instruments, but he absolutely despised the drums. Which is almost (key word: almost) understandable, given that they were completely thrashed, with max overdrive and general distortion on the drum bus (in the process creating both a rhythmic but noisy drum loop and an absolutely godly snare drum). This motherfucker had the audacity to claim that it was "absolute garbage" and "just noise", which led to a lengthy argument on whether or not it was good. We eventually agreed to disagree, after he used the "it's my opinion that matters" card on me (which I said I honestly didn't care about (the fact that his opinion matters more than mine, not the fact that his opinion was worthless)). He then told me he might not give me credit for that one, saying that it didn't fulfill the requirements (although it totally did; I had the requirements sheet right next to me and offered to read them to him). Tomorrow I sincerely hope we get into an argument on what actually constitutes music, so that I can absolutely destroy him, given that I know what I'm talking about and have had said argument before.

So basically what I've decided to do is create an extremely cliche song just to see if effort really matters at all.

Actually we started with Audacity and sample manipulation, which honestly was not too bad. But yeah, 12 bar blues from then till about 2 weeks ago. I'd assume that this guy's listened to 12 bar blues though, given that he graduated from high school in 1978. I still don't get how it's considered "electronic" though.

e: Chip, you've reached the state where 63% of people go to church every week (compared to my state's average of 23%). If you're anything but Christian (especially atheist and maybe Muslim), do not say it ever. They'll smother you with claims of how you're "going to burn in hell for not accepting Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior". Also

Yo biggles, if someone tries to talk down on you, stop them the second you notice it.
You're not gonna get in trouble for calling someone out.
There's no teacher, unqualified or not, who would see you calling them out and not at least pause.
It's worth your time, it's definitely worth the rude motherfucker's time.
Stop their asses and tell them that they're being fucking rude.
Like, "Quit that before I kick the shit out of your mouth and shove your misguided preconceptions back up your ass."
Say that but nicer.

As for me, I'm here to give out hugs. Because I'm doing rather ok right now actually. I was doing pretty badly around graduation, but then I graduated and stopped caring.

You're all fucking great.

Don't forget to let people know that.

Destroying someone (or however you wanna call it) isn't a solution, never ever. It'll only fuel you with anger, and your teacher has the full right to get you into loads of trouble with it.

What I'd say, try to get him to talk with you at some time. Just tell him that you didn't fully understand what you did wrong with the songs, and that you want him to explain it a bit. He has no reason to eat you. Just ask him what was wrong with it, and tell him your thoughts, that you thought that that one thing did sound good to you. Make sure to ask him for the reason he doesn't like what you did.
And for the love of god, don't shove the list of requirements in his face. He sure as hell knows the criteria. Just tell him that it was right all along, and if not, ask him to explain why not. And, just, don't be like "yea take that you were wrong all along" against him. He might get annoyed and you'll just be off with no credit again.

Then again, I don't know how credits work. But I guess that these steps would help you.

I wasn't serious, Exo. As much as I argue and bitch on this forum I'm actually quite chill in real life, and I haven't yelled at anyone (in actual anger) in months if not years. Also, by credit I meant for the assignment, not for the class. I'm not actually sure if the class is worth any fine arts credits (if it was it would be worth 2.5, b/c half year course and it would round off the required 5, but I'm taking a full year fine arts class next year anyway so it doesn't matter).

What I would expect to gain from destroying him (in an argument) would be satisfaction. That's it. And given what I clarified in this post, I can live with not getting credit for this class (and he can't take away credit for something like this. Now, if I intentionally destroyed his computer...)

look parantheses inside each other

I'd say, how are you doing grade wise in the class? If the man constantly fails you because you are doing stuff he doesn't like, then you have a problem. But I guess if he gives you ok grades just keep trying your absolute best. All this stuff you told us, they are also reasons that until this year I hated art class. All through elementary school and one year in middle school we learned nothin about art, just how to copy other people's crap. Then I finally took this class in freshman year, and it was great because the teacher actually taught us from the beginning (gesture drawings, etc.) So I actually learned stuff there, as opposed to the 7 years of my life wasted making macaroni picassos. So your situation sounds like the former. If you are of a waaaaaay higher level than the class requires, yeah, I'd say totally just go with the flow and do the bare minimum amount of work to get an A. Especially if you feel like you won't ever learn anything in the class. But talking with the teacher is a must. You should explain to him that you have been working with this for much longer than the other students, and then maybe he will give you more leeway. It's like in English class, they tell you that you can only start breaking the rules when you become Hemingway (or any decently awesome author). But saying this gives no thought to those students who might actually be the next Hemingway. And I hate the system, because it doesn't allow anyone to explore, talented or otherwise. I could go into a long rant thing about how school should be more about learning and that should be done through exploration rather than lecture and parameters, but instead I'll just leave you with this advice and I will also wish you luck. Good luck! :3

This may not mean much to some but i would like to explain how i appreciate all of the bronys:

i just love seeing people cheering for what they love, wether they are 1,50,60 or whatever age

just the feeling of seeing so many people love on single thing in common is magical. All of you mean alot to me

even if i didnt meet you yet,im still look through all of the artist and music work to give them tips and cheer

them up.When i saw the live shows at bronycon it was amazing all of these people united for what they

love. What truly is representive is the proof of uniqueness we have,we are all different and have our own

talents to share with others,we all have different aspects. But when we all love the same thing we keep

fighting and fighting to get better,we get help from our true bros we feel how they care for us and we

cheer on helping others in fight i may be abit nostalgic on this fact but truly all of you are my loved ones

and i hope we all make it togheter.Love you guys -Afrox

It's probably gonna change next schoolyear though.
