Knock knock! Is this thread still alive? I hope I'm doing fine since I only read threads after they mature.

• Use pcpartpicker. It makes putting links and everything a lot easier, and it calculates totals for you MUCH easier.
• I suggest getting some sort of G.Skill Ares for RAM instead. You save a tiny bit of money and it's easier to upgrade your CPU cooler if you ever want to in the future; it's no loss for a cheaper price. If you want to save a lot more money with the slightest performance hit, get something from the Value series instead, at DDR3-1333.
• I'd also suggest against the Gamma. It's old, and Source 210 is a better NZXT case at its price range IIRC. (omg source is a lot cheaper right now. get it before the sale ends!!!)
• I'd advise against the GT 610. Get the HD 6670 instead; it's the best card if you just want to save money with cards.
• Change your CD drive to a cheaper one. By the time you buy it you might need to change it again.
• Get that monitor ASAP while it's really cheap.

Wow, thanks! This is actually very helpful, and I'm definitely going to be using it. Now to tackle the "getting a job" part.

But one thing confuses me. Why don't they calculate in tax? Is that just something that newegg and other websites don't have on their products? Because when I googled to see what the tax on products bought over the internet was, I got 8%

• You can get a free operating system if you really want to fit some better stuff in your budget. Also consider cannibalizing a mouse + keyboard from another computer if you can. Or even a monitor! If you really wanted you could skip the CD drive to save even more money.
• You don't have to get that graphics card if you can increase your budget (or cut down on other things) and stick with Intel's integrated graphics. They work fine for non-gaming.
• Your CPU is gonna need a cooler if you want to get an unlocked CPU and overclock that !(@*$.
• I think you can cut down on some other things to increase your CPU budget and get like a 3570k. It might have less cores, but I don't think you'll be running heavily threaded things that will call for all the cores. NavyBrony already said pretty much everything about AMD vs Intel here.
• Fitting in a SSD would also be nice.

I also suggest going to reddit.com/r/buildapc since the people there are more experienced than me. You may need to post multiple times for every change to make sure your build is good. Be sure to state your budget, but don't include peripherals within that budget. Do that separately.

Lol, alright. Well, I don't have anything against Linux, but I'm going with Windows 7 64-bit because it's what I use and trust right now, so I know it's reliable. Although I have no doubt that Linux is also reliable. Also, I don't have any spare computer monitors around the house, and I'm not sure my parents would appreciate it if they woke up one morning and their computer monitor was gone, and I suddenly have the exact same one they had. Same for the keyboard and mouse, lol

Necroing aside, I have a quick question on the reliability of this site, so I'm wondering if any of you can testify that it's good or whatnot. I'm talking to somebody on reddit about my computer build and my plans for it, and they lead me to this site, saying that they bought from it and it's reliable, but I can't find any review sites telling me about its reliability or whatever.

Other people are definitely pointing out how untrustworthy they look to be, so unless some people come and prove that they're legit, I guess I'll just buy a copy of W7 from trinity software. Trinity seems to be legit, has good reviews and people say they're legit.
