The hugging/venting thread

Sports, politics, movies, videogames, questionable hobbies, photos from your family vacation, etc. Talk about stuff that isn't ponies or music. But do try to stay on topic and respectful of alternate opinions.

Shit, that reminds me, I need to choose my classes for Sophomore year.

As for my problems: I seem to disagree with everyone on everything. Magnitude Zero and Freewave and occasionally Makkon being the most common examples.

Speaking of PETA, time for me to exercise the venting portion of this thread: I'm bloody sick of PETA. Yes, I know that a lot of animal abuses are still rampant and I am against animal abuse totally, but PETA takes it too far.

First, there's the brainwashing of kids with half-baked rip-offs of popular games including Mario, Cooking Mama, and now bleeding Pokemon. It's like they can't discern between reality and fiction (They say Pokemon promotes bloodsports like dog fighting and cock/rooster fights). And even if their games were original, who the Hell wants to brainwash kids into thinking their mom's the next Charlie Manson because she happened to have cooked chicken for dinner and the fine folks at PETA have told little Junior that Col. Sanders is Satan incarnate and the blood of millions of innocent chickens raised to be eaten stains his establishment.

And also, they act like the chickens/cows/pigs that are used for meat were kidnapped and and murdered. No, they were raised for food, and though I do question their methods of raising and slaughtering, PETA doesn't really offer much of a solution. Just spread propaganda that Ronald McDonald and Col. Sanders may as well be Lucifer and Damien to the cute little cows and chickens. They act as though the slaughterhouses are the livestock equal to Dante's Inferno. I know the places are far from perfect and the employees routinely torture the chickens and whatnot, but again, what's the solution?

I agree with PETA's message wholeheartedly but I do not like them because, yeah, they are jerks (as stated above.) I would like to become a vegetarian sometime but it hasn't really worked out.

Same here. Often I've questioned myself on whether eating red meat is a good idea (Both in an ethical and healthy sense), and I haven't eaten much of it lately, mainly replacing it with chicken and fish. I do agree with the bulk of their message, but their execution is very naff and they have a self-righteous, "Holier than thou art" attitude.

Red meat is very healthy for you though o.O

It has loads of protein and it helps keep meat on your body. Being skinny is not healthy at all.

I still eat it, just not as often, like maybe once/twice a week. Chicken is probably my most common meat, and fish is every other week (I love a good piece of salmon or grouper every so often).

The problem with PETA is that they are really nothing but a huge publicity stunt, they don't really do much except spread offensive nonsense for shock value in order to get more attention.

My mom was a biochemist earlier in her life, and she has told me stories about what PETA would do at research institutions that make me feel unsafe around people that support it even today. I agree with kultz here, the bulk of their publicity is just offensive and badly researched shock material meant to get people riled up and angry. When you look at their actual "How many animals did we save", PETA kills more animals per year than any other organization in the world, most of them not even by the standard humane procedures.

See what I mean? They're a bunch of bleeding hypocrites. And here they are criticizing KFC for the activity of their suppliers (Which is pretty heinous just because workers like to punch and torture the chickens as well as the inefficient stun-baths/killing blades), yet they kill more animals for the sake of research than any other group. If this isn't hypocrisy, I don't know what is.

But derailing the subject a tiny bit, these last couple of days here in GA are gorgeous. I've been sitting on my front porch with my laptop gazing out at my yard.

Ugh. I really wish for the days when I didn't actually follow anybody in this fandom except for their music or art.

I keep finding out people are huge douche bags.

Archie
Alex S
WMill

and more of course. I like the lesser known people better. They are cooler people and are better people in general. Now I can't listen to an Alex S song without getting mad...look at a friggen WMill wallpaper without raging...or even really respect Archie anymore.

This sucks

Hm, Alex S used the fandom? :? I don't see how he did. Somebody explain this to me.

I do remember seeing him getting signed, but he hasn't really been making pony music for some time now. I don't see why him getting signed suddenly means he was using the fandom, so I'm guessing it's something other than getting the record label.

I sort of crashed my mom's car this morning.

It was early in the morning and we'd just left to go skiing. I was driving, my mom was in the passenger seat. A cop came up behind me with his lights on. I was going maybe 50 in a 45, which I guess is technically speeding, so I pulled over. Except the cop kept going. And I went into the guardrail.

The damage was minimal and we're both okay, but God do I feel awful about it. I apologized kind of a lot and she keeps telling me it's fine, but I can't get over the fact that I damaged someone else's property - a car that happens to be very dear to her - because I wasn't paying attention. And she keeps trying to blame the cop, but he wasn't the one behind the wheel. I panicked and slipped up and now my parents are going to have to pay more money that they don't have to fix something that my stupid ass broke.

And that's my first world problem for today.

Ptepix, I guess it goes along with the popularity. That's why, though I'd love people to listen to my music and I'd love to play at cons and whatnot, I don't hope for much popularity, because I fear I'll become just another douche. Granted, some bigger named artists are bros (Prince Whatever and Bronyfied, for example), but others (They know who they are) have an ego to match. Strange about Alex, though, one of my close friends outside of this forum says he's a good guy.

And Magnitude, that sucks. I know how you feel, about being a minor inconvenience but it feels like a heavy burden. My excuse is depression/anxiety making even the tiniest problem look like the world's going to explode. Hugs all around!

Guys, if you think someone is a douchebag, just ignore them, don't go posting about them being douchebags. It's none of your concern. And yes I realize I did something similar with AcousticBrony, but I realised that was stupid.

All of these people are just on the internet as far as you're concerned, reserve judgement till you meet them in real life. I learnt that the hard way.

Technically speaking it is the cops fault because you saw the cop... puled over but the cop did not anticipate that so therefore it is the cops fault

This. Then again, most people I know in this community have been extremely nice, no matter how popular they were. But then again, we're all human, and we have bad days, and that may make our dispositions unpleasant. Of course, people deal with bad days differently, and some may just as well act like douches while others swallow their pride and move on.

You do have a point, this is a thread where you can feel safe to vent about anything. The only rule is that whatever is said here about anyone else stays here. Confidentiality you know.
