What are your top 5 movies of all time?

What are your top 5 movies of all time?

Postby soultensionbenjamin » 02 Mar 2013 00:28

My God just thought of this topic and i was just wondering of the communities taste in movies

so for me...

5 Django unchained
wow this movie it deals with slavery, love, becoming an apprentice, revenge ,friendship its just my god
i loved watching this movie its a bit to recent to consider it any higher but wow

4.Forrest Gump

the feels, i just cant express my love for the story of a boy who was destined to fail but rose above all else

3 Pulp fiction.

this movie is well different it focuses on dialogue more than anything else and the movie is not in chronological order, its pretty mind warping

2. The Godfather

just the classic tale of a Mafia family with so much dark atmosphere and story, a dynasty undone by the tragic circumstances of their criminal exploits.

1. The good , The bad , and the UGLY

look i have no words to describe this movie just go and watch it Ok. its pretty danm good

I don't really have a top 5, not a movie buff, but I'll be damned if Django Unchained wasn't a good movie, it's no doubt one of the best I've ever seen in my life.

I didn't think Jamie Foxx could deliver such a good performance, but with Quentin directing, why should I be surprised?

I don't watch a lot of movies, but if I had to rate the ones I have seen:

5. Avengers-
Awesome graphics, decent plot, and amazing action scenes, so it has its spot here for that.
4. The Prince of Egypt-
For being an animated Bible movie, its an amazing rendition of the story, and the musical production score is just stunning.
3. Graves for Fireflies-
This movie... just... damn...
2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part II)
Obligatory Harry Potter.
1. Les Miserables
Started slow on the musical side (but got a lot better), but it stayed incredibly close to the book, and did a stellar job of crunching a 1000+ page book into a one-part movie.

4. The Dark Knight (Seriously, Joker was sooooooooooooo good.)

3. Les Miserables (Really, REALLY good, and I don't even like musicals.)

2. The Empire Strikes Back (Best Star Wars movie.)

1. Inception (Great in every aspect. Easily the best movie I've ever seen.)

I'm a little bit of a movie buff, so lemme take a crack at this (in descending order)...

5. Law Abiding Citizen

Yes, Jamie Foxx can act. He's damn good at it, too.

4. American History X

Nothing to say about this one. Just go watch it.

3. Our Idiot Brother

A very funny, cute movie. Perhaps I just like it because the main character is like a more gullible version of me. I dunno.

2. Fight Club

If you haven't seen this yet, just go watch it. Just do it.

1. American Psycho

Holy shit this movie. A great performance by Christian Bale and cast. Surprisingly a very thought-provoking movie.

Yes! Now that's a list. Apparently some people didn't realize movies existed before 2000.

I don't know about "of all time" but here's a quick list of some of mine (purposefully not ranked).

There Will Be Blood
In my eyes this film cemented Paul Thomas Anderson's status as the modern day Stanley Kubrick. No Country for Old Men was my favorite film of 2007 until I saw this.

Eastern Promises
A wonderfully-crafted crime saga filled with some great performances.

Munich
Incredibly underrated, powerful, and (technically) a period piece with repercussions that ring out to today. It's a shame not more people have seen it.

Amadeus
Completely sacrifices historical accuracy but I am 100% okay with it since it resulted in a rich character-driven film. I saw this when I was younger and it stuck with me ever since.

City of God
Wow. Expertly crafted and deeply unsettling. Unforgettable. So good I couldn't form complete sentences.

I'm gonna cheat and add some more: The Man with the Movie Camera, Pan's Labyrinth, Children of Men, and Le Quattro Volte.

Yeah I know, I'm completely pretentious.

Forest Gump
--
this movie had the right balance of comedy and seriousness to make it a really spectacular film. I've always loved how he just kinda finds himself in really high profile places and doesn't think anything of it.

The Bridge To Terabithia
---
Feels. Just feels.

The Bionicle Series (I'm a pile of nostalgia shut up)
---
As a kid, I played with these all the freakin' time. My motor skills were..well..I'll sum it up, I had to go to physical therapy to train my hands to be able to grip a pencil. Anyway, these movies are faaar from perfect, to this day I find some moments (and all of the 4th one) pretty poorly done. But for the value of nostalgia, they rank among my favorites.

I Am Legend
---
Zombie movie done RIGHT...till the end which made no sense at all. I much prefer the Alternate Ending, it leaves many more moral implications than "fuckit, I'mma blow em up and die".

Cloverfield
---
Well..if you don't have motion sickness, this is a great movie.

Bigglesworth, I too prefer the alternate ending. We had this epic philosophical discussion about it in my scifi class and it was lol. That was a great movie but it kind of freaked me out so I just didn't watch part of it.

1) Napoleon Dynamite- Just perfect everything. I've seen it like fifty times and I'm not tired of it, I could watch this film forever. And also it has amazing cinematography and set design. A true masterpiece of low budget film.

2) Star wars- Aww yeah I love this still <3 not really sure which is my favorite episode because you kind of have to watch all of them but then again they are not all good...

(note- after this point the list no longer reflects my favorite but rather whatever comes to mind)

3) Scott Pilgrim vs. The World- super unique film! I'd say the "Catcher in the Rye" of our generation. It was also pretty darn hilarious.

4) 2001: A Space Odyssey- Actually, I felt like it made perfect sense (because I read the book...?)

5) Juno- omg adorable movie! Also with soundtrack by another of the most amazing singers ever (Kimya Dawson) It was also pretty hilarious as well as touching.

4. Pulp Fiction
3. Django Unchained
2. The Art of Flight
1. Memento
