omgIactuallyfinishedatrack! Only took me like 11 months.
What do you guys think? Does it need more tweaking? (It is intended to have vocals, I just haven't written them yet.)

(This is not my main genre, so take everything I say with a grain of salt.)

For the most part this was quite enjoyable. The main melody could, to me, stand a little more variation, though. Right now it gets somewhat repetitive. A change doesn't have to be huge or extensive, just enough to keep the listener's attention.

I like your choice of instrumentation/patches and I think the it's well-structured, in that the different voices come in when they should and keep the timbre nice and varied but still cut from the same cloth. That being said, I think the song might work better as being shorter. Except instead of cutting out sections just maybe shave off of the ones you already have. Either that or introduce some larger changes in the tempo, timbre, etc.

Like I said, I'm by no means an expert. This is just my personal reaction.

Hope that helps!

Thank you kindly! My brother said the same thing about the repetition when I showed it to him, too.

I could likely shave off some of the chorus'. Right now they're sitting at about 16 bars each. After I finish all the mixing I'm going to try to write lyrics for it as well, so if I put it down to 12 bars that might do the trick. It would also give me more room to put maybe an extra verse right before the staccato strings come in. I kinda felt its a little short there, specifically right after the first chorus, where the synth starts playing the MLP melody.

Oh, if you're going to add lyrics then you needn't worry as much about repetition since the words will be the main focus (regardless, a little more variation never hurt anyone). I didn't realize there would be a vocal component.

Oops, I guess I forgot to mention that in the OP... Silly me!

No problem!

I actually think it works quite well without vocals. Of course, it's completely up to you, but before you said you're going to add lyrics I didn't get the sense that it was missing them. In terms of timbre it feels pretty whole as is.

Again, it's your decision. You don't have to listen to me at all.
