The actual plot was good, but the way it was strung together paced was a pile of horseshit.
I'm going to blame Hasbro, that should've been two parts (like the Discord episode), but they only wanted 13 episodes this season.

That's my only complaint, it felt like it changed too spontaneously. It was like, OH NO CUTIE MARKS. NOW SAVE EVERYONE. NOW MAKE A SPELL. NOW I'M A PRINCESS. *end*

Like, that's a lot to jam into 22 minutes anyway, the fact that they tried to get 7 songs in there too was kind of over the top.

Otherwise, yeah that was a great episode. I'm glad they're adding on to it in Season 4 though, so now to wait until June!

Real talk though? I didn't dislike the new episode but I didn't like it either. I think it was a mixture between the rushed feeling in the episode (although for how much was in there it was pretty well done) and the some what POOF YOU'RE AN ALICORN bit. I did love a lot of the songs though (particularly the Rainbow Dash's and Fluttershy's parts in the cutie mark song), but some of them were a little lackluster (the parade one and the depression one). Character writing was pretty done except for when Pinkie turns back into LULSORANDUMB self that has been badly done this season. In the end I'm pretty neutral about the whole thing. Hopefully season 4 will help and not harm the show.

I liked it enough but I agree with the others that think it was too rushed. Does anyone else think that the graveness of the situation (switched destiny) didn't come through well because of how quickly things went?

The Return of Harmony made Discord the best villain IMO because all hope seemed lost even going into the second half of part 2. I feel like today's episode would have gone so much better if it took longer to develop the problem, and way longer for Twi to figure it out.

Like I said, Hasbro tried to force out too much story in 13 episodes. I was only happy with about 8 of the episodes this season. Still good, but I liked every single episode in previous seasons.

I liked season three, but overall it felt like a setup for something grander. Like everyone else is saying, forcing a lot of story into too few episodes. I liked the newest episode and think they did relatively well just jumping right in instead of easing into things. (Ten seconds in, shit's obviously wrong.) I think the writers did a pretty good job cramming it into a single episode, but I still think a two parter would have made it great instead of "good for the time they were given."

I'm eagerly awaiting season 4, and hoping that they are indeed going for 26 episodes for the sole fact that it gives them more time to flesh out ideas. So many great ideas this season that I feel fell a little flatter than they should have due to time limitations. Case and point this most recent episode and Discord's reformation.

As an aside, "too many pinkies" is one of my favorite episodes to date.

I liked it. Overall, I agree that S3 definitely kinda rushed to the Alicorn bit, partly because the 65 Episode construct is lame, partly because there was definitely potential for more of the current dynamic before it got stale. Still, like we've all known, really, the staff behind the show are more than capable of knocking a curveball out of the park.

Personally, I really liked Celestia's song, and the part where Rainbow Dash hugged her "new flying buddy" (aggggh, so adorable).

And I have to say, True True Friend gave me so many feels. Seriously, having been stressed out to the point of tears before, I empathized deeply with AJ and Rarity at their parts of the song. It demonstrates, to me, at least, just how abjectly miserable and helpless they felt at those moments.

Yes, putting the words where they belong, Phoot. Couldn't agree more. Also, there has only been one episode that has ever really made me nearly cry - The Sisterhooves Social episode. That episode was heartbreakingly daaaww.

Also, during one of the songs, I swung along with the characters as they sang. It was great fun.

I didn't notice Derpy the first time I watched it, but after hearing about it and going back to look for myself, I have to say that her showing up again might just be the redeeming touch for this episode.
