Stuff you really want for your studio/workspace

Postby Mr. Bigglesworth » 13 Feb 2013 20:50

So, what kinda stuff do you guys have your eyes on for your workspaces? Can be anything you wanna include, decorations, hardware, software or whatever else. Post a list!

I'll start.

Some good moniters, maybe Rokits
A midi trigger, looking at either a Launchpad, an Akai APC40 or maybe the Ableton push when that happens.
A smaller midi keyboard, my current one takes up a lot of space and I only need 2 octaves.
A bigger desk
moar VST's
An actual synthesizer (one day)
and a lil Gordon Freeman figure to go between my scap art Alien Queen and Predator.

EDIT: maybe Ableton Live 9 when it comes out. I keep hearing good things about that daw.

a room that isn't some deformed attempt at a rectangle with ledges and extrusions and closets. I just want a big room that has 4 walls, set up to be good acoustically. So that I can set up panels and bass traps without doors or closets or ledges or other funky things getting in the way. And an expensive set of monitors. And a computer with 128GB of RAM and the world's fastest processor. And 2TB worth of storage space split between 3 or 4 solid state disks. And an amazing audio interface. And a set of studio monitors and subwoofers. And a nice set of headphones. And Ableton or Logic. And a nice midi keyboard. And an expensive and quality condenser mic. and everything that will take me years to save up for *collapses into corner and cries* I am so lonely with my dreams.

to get rid of the fan. it's SOOO noisy.
You realise the pressure that lift's from your ears when it flicks off!

Could use some SSD and acoustic treatment as well...

I want a second midi keyboard (I used to have one before I realized what it was became obsessed with making music, but I donated it)
A midi-controller of some sort (those Novation lauchpads look badass)
A better DAW; I love LMMS, but there are just some things its really bad at or just can't do.

A new desk.
A new midi keyboard (my current one has no controls and only is 2.5 octaves.)
A synthesizer (preferably a Korg.)
Good stereo system for my computer.
A better/more amps for my bass and soon my electric guitar.
Maybe another monitor or two.
Novation LaunchPad.
And definitely some cathode lights.
Bitches love cathode lights.

Having a legitimate workplace would be a good start, seeing as all I have now is a laptop with some software.

But aside from that a 48 key MIDI controller would be good to have, and maybe a smaller 25 key MIDI controller, seeing as I have no controllers at all right now.

I could go for Absynth, it seems like a really good VST, and after seeing the capabilities of PianoTeq, I've kind of been itching for a good piano VST.

I also feel like I should get some Vengeance samples, seeing as it feels like almost everyone has them, but I'm still doing okay with free samples for now.

If you're getting Vengeance samples then get Clubsounds or Electroshock. Also I'd highly recommend getting the deadmau5 Xfer, very worth it.

As for myself, I'd also really like to get a decent recording mic so I can use my guitar in tracks.

I would probably sell my nocturn to make room for a Virus TI Snow, and sell my current midi keyboard for a synth that I could hook up with midi to use it in my DAW as well.. oh and probably like acoustically treat my room or something. Probably gonna take a while before I get to that point haha.

Just to clarify- I don't need any material possessions to make music, I've got everything I could possibly want. I just want to be able to make music in a pinch with my tools.

A physical synth, preferably one of those huge modular ones. And then a pair of Cerwin Vega speakers (not necisarily in my studio, but I want em anyway).

But in all seriousness I want to try my hand at circuit bending and synth building and then haveing those in my workplace.
