Current / Ideal Career

Postby Conduit » 12 Feb 2013 18:39

Whats your current job? What do you want to do ideally?
It would be interesting to see how many people on here are actually considering music as a career.

I personally want to score films, but I'm going to get some studio production / audio engineering degrees as a back up. If nothing music related worked out I would probably go into either bio-med, bio-engineering, or psychology. Prosthetics and the human psych both interest me immensely.

EDIT: Forgot to say I'm currently in high school, and have far too many hobbies for any sort of job.

I don't have a career right now. As a student with many hobbies he would like to keep, I just don't have the time. For ideal careers, they would fall into a small list. I'm horrid at decision-making. I can't wait until I decide on my Major/Minor. /sarcasm

Working in the game industry: Coding, 3D modeling, Music, whatever I can get and do successively. Though leading it would be nice, as many ideas have flown through my head that would make amazing games. This would be the most ideal. Games have been a major part of my life, even more than music. I would love to turn this into a reality.

Sound Design: I like making/recreating sounds. I know this would be difficult, but I would be as good of a student if I didn't like a challenge.

Musician: If this happens, I'll go with it. If it doesn't, it'll make an amazing hobby.

Coding: I'm just that nerdy. This would not be my most ideal career, but I would be satisfied.

I currently work in a recording studio with some family, I really like it, I work with computers a lot which is good because it comes more easily to me. Plus I get to work with audio programs from time to time, which is great for the sense of familiarty it has.

As for an ideal job? I'm thinking music in some area, making music for 30 second commercials is somnething I'd never do. I've been commissioned for it once, tried to make something, creativity died and I had to just say no to them. But I'd personally love to do mixing for bands or maybe a recording job. And composition is something I'd really love to do, along with general sound design. I really wanna try to keep my options open, jack-of-all-trades as they say. I'm attending univerisity at some point in the next few years, I'll decide exactly what course is for me before then.

Yeah, I'm still a student right now, and I really don't have too much of an idea where I'm going.

I'd love to be able to make music for a career, especially since it's one of the few things that interests me, and that I actually have potential to be good at. I really don't see myself getting there though, since there are so many people my age who are more talented than me.

I've still got a few years ahead of me though, so I might find something else I love, but I definitely don't plan on giving up music anytime soon.

I'm currently a student that's both too lazy and too wrapped up in music to get an actual job. Ideally, I'd end up as a full-time producer, whether that's for other people or as my own act, but I'm also entertaining the idea of teaching, since it's an easy enough fallback option for a music major/English minor. Speaking of English minor, I'm also sort of into writing, so if that could lead to a job, that'd also be awesome.

10/10 realistic career expectations.

I'm a student at an art school. As a realist, I see that the music industry is currenly oversaturated (and isn't really a great place to be). As such, while I'd like to work in the music industry, chances are I'll end up working in another of my strong points, design.

So I'll probably go to an art college and major in design.

Dictator of the world. Failing that communist revolutionary/secessionist meddler (like all those people associated with the Spanish Civil war). Hope immigration won't notice anything weird about hypothetical frequent stays in Spain, France, Russia, Georgia, Iraq, Syria and Mali. And if revolutionary isn't an option than probably something related to international relations/intelligence gathering.

However I am currently a student.

Right now, I'm a student in high school on my last year, and I'm soon going to college. I'm planning on majoring in computer science and engineering with a minor in audio engineering/music. I ideally want to work on audio engineering/production or of course be a musician. However, my realist back-up is a nerdling, going around house to house, fixing all of the electronics. Y'know, computer engineering stuff. So, yeah.

As much as the industry sucks, I'm getting some portfolio in...ugh retail. I haven't worked in it very long, but I know enough to hate it. Failing that, working with computers is my thing.

My ideal job is to just to spend money. But that's not a job, lol. Music stuff is fine, although doing video editing would be fine too. I recently went onto some career website and did a ton of tests (which actually cost money, they're really good), and it calculated my top couple of careers.

Video producer, music producer, sound technician, director (as in acting a movies and stuff), and... an architect. Lol.

Stuff I can make money with: welding, painting, body work (cars), construction, landscaping, freelance writing, advertisement marketing. (Off the top of my head, there's more.)

Musically I'm working towards forming a record label. Eventually once I am content with my own music production skill, I'd also like to be selling my own music I create to the general audience.
I may pick up some jobs with producing music for commercials just for the fun of it.
Also it's likely that in a few years I'll set up a violin studio where I can give lessons to beginner-intermediate students. Also I plan on playing for social events such as weddings.
As I continue to hone my theory, I may start writing orchestral pieces, depending on various opportunities I get in the next few years.

I don't know whether or not it replaces my other sources of income that I thoroughly enjoy doing, but that's not really my ultimate goal.

Same. That's why I want to go into politics.

I'm a high school student with no job (b/c freshman). Ideally, I'd like to be a music producer (surprised?), but I'm probably going to go into theoretical or particle physics, because I'm good at them and enjoy them. Failing that, level design for video games. Failing that, i don't know.

I, too am a high school student (only 15) but I have a part time job at a local music school teaching little kids (3-7) how to play various instruments.

However, I want to go into Quantum Physics and Research; and actually am currently working with a local University (Kettering) to develop a anti-gravity based electricity generator- they are paying for the materials as long as I build one for them as well and let them share the patent when its done. : P

That being said, I really love music, and will probably use it as a way to pay for college (playing in bars/ churchs/ teaching) and as a hobby afterwards.

I wan't to make music for video games as a career. Not interested in sound design (as a job) however. I'm waiting till I'm out of high school before I actually contact a developer. Currently I've done some minor things for some friends. Their animations and whatnot. However, I can't write musical notation. I'm able to read it ok, but when it comes to actually writing it I get stuck. I'm also an artist as a hobby, and think it will help me along the lines somewhere along the lines :)

(Actually, if anyone has any good links for me regarding video game composition, PLEASE let me know!)

My ideal career.. Hm. Probably being In-House, which is really rare now, but it guarantees constant work as a musician, rather than what I am now, which is freelance.

So current I guess would be between jobs. I finished up the film score, I have some lined up in the next few weeks with a guitarist wanting a demo album produced for clubs/labels, and I might throw my weight around a bit to see if anyone wants to sponsor the kid, he's got a real nice voice. I'm hoping for some exposure from the film too, and by how much the producer is pushing it, I should hear SOMETHING from SOMEONE.. I hope...

Man, i'm still in school myself, but I honestly have no idea what I want to do. There are too many interesting potential options. I don't even know what I want to study, except I can't teach, I don't want to be a doctor/lawyer, and I have no desire to do anything related to writing or history.

But that leaves a lot of stuff open, and I can't decide. Similar to how I can't decide what kind of music I want to make. Hm.....
My goal is to be capable of making any kind of music that strikes my fancy, and do it well.
