I saw the documentry, and to me it seemed to do more harm than good. They almost seemed to go after the worse of the fandom.

Never really cared about it, didn't fund it on kickstarter, didn't buy it, didn't pirate it. I know basically all I need to know about the brony fandom through tumblr, the fan fiction I've read, the people I've met and the livestream footage from the conventions. I highly doubt that this documentary would be particularly illuminating to me, especially considering its reception. Still, I'm fine with not being the target demographic. That's what documentaries are for: to illuminate someone who isn't part of the subject matter.

I'm more interested in hearing what non-bronies thought of it (yeah, I suppose this makes this mini-rant semi-hypocritical).

Man, PurpleTinker used to run RainbowDash.Net, one of those sites that I loved back when I became a brony. Then she kinda left it to die, and just oh God. Everything kinda died on that site, solely because of a single person refusing to either give up their power to someone deserving or keep actually doing stuff.
Also, just my input, I rather liked the documentary, but I'm sure that's just some sort of a narcissistic reaction.

A little off-topic, but I don't see how that makes her an idiot. A short forray into the 4chan yields results like the following,

Hate or like 4chan, it's like internet+. It's got the power to create inside jokes that spread all around, so chances are most of the memes (funny or unfunny) were either started or established over there, as well as some other sites like reddit, or even GASP LE GASP FACE tumblr. Seriously, everyone likes to bash 9gag or funnyjunk or 4chan but tumblr is equally as bad/good. It can make some funny stuff up and spread the new thing around, but it also has a giant pool of retardation. Just looking at my dashboard I have to pile through unfunny posts to get to the funny stuff, just like every other site I mentioned. And it's not even better with it's use of language or arguments than any of these sites above. The fact that you're on it and you yourself don't contribute doesn't mean anything.

Discs
We are on deadline to deliver the masters to the disc replicator early next week. The process of creating the Blu-Ray was more complicated than excepted. The replicator takes about three weeks, then we ship. Most will be happy to hear that we decided to go with a Blu-Ray / DVD combo pack. There is one 2-disc pack with the main film and one 2-disc pack with the extended interviews bonus disc. I've included the cover art for those who are interested. We will be ordering extra discs (both main film and bonus disc) and plan on having them available for sale on Amazon.

They're bitching because piracy exists... You could have known this beforehand. People who pirate it probably wouldn't have bought it anyway.

And then there's the whole funding thing. You can ask money for a movie if you actually invested in it to get your money back and perhaps make some profit. Imo it's UNACCEPTABLE to let it be completely funded by fans and then get mad at the fans because some people pirate the end result of what all the other fans funded.

To me, this boils down to "We don't think we can make a lot of money by releasing extra material, so we're not going to bother".

I haven't seen the documentary, and I won't even bother to pirate it either. Needless to say, I'm disappointed.

EDIT: Didn't read the entire thread, so I didn't know they're releasing it anyway. But I still stand by what I said...

It was pretty dang boring to be honest. I like that they documented Tombstone, but I have 2 gripes with that. one; they kinda glazed over it and two; there were other musicians there too, and they got no mention (aside from Tombstone explaining that Alex S spurred him to remix Winter Wrap Up). And in all honesty the 10 year old brony kid was kinda...well I hate to say it, pointless. They did will with LaserPon-3 though, and the coverage of the art crowd was decent at least.

So worth the hype? Nope.
