<Pony><Original> Changelings (WIP) [Psytrance]

Just a little update, since I've been busy with prelims and such.

I have a teaser for a psychedelic trance track I've been working on, and I would like to hear how it is going so far. The intro is much longer, I just cut some of the start for the above teaser, and it will be embellished with samples from shows about changlings/shapeshifters or other scenes of terror.

Other than that, I just wondered how you liked it so far, and if at this stage there was anything worth checking over.

I'll release more over the next couple of months when I am happy with a transition or section.

(Track is a mixdown WIP, amplified in Audacity. If there is anything that seems a little "off" mix-wise, this could be why.)

Hey mate, I'm gonna review this track, but don't expect much cause I don't know a lot about trance. I'm sorry, I'm not receiving any feedback yet either.

bass seems to be lacking around here. I dunno if that's a style, but I just don't hear any punch coming out of these tracks. People like something that can get them pumping, but then again this does seem to cutoff before something major happens, so maybe that's when the thickness will cut in. The plucky bass does sound nice though. I think you could make a heavier kick or something. I'm sorry, take this with a salty grain, I haven't listened to a lot of trance XD.

Thanks for the reply! Frankly, any feedback is appreciated, as it gives a different perspective on the track.

To answer your comment, it is an early mix, so there is still room for improvement. Also the track is quite quiet, as it hasn't been mastered hot or anything, I just amplified it in Audacity, so prehaps it sounds 'heavier' at higher volumes, especially on speakers. I'm glad you liked the 303 bassline! I spent ages experementing to find the perfect sound after listening to other tracks in the genre.

So yes, I'll look into that in the future. Right now I need sleep, and to actually put the track together.

Anyone with tips/advice? This is a track I really want to do well, so any thoughts would be valuable.

I love this song. The bass line is extremely well made. The comments that says there is not enough bass is wrong. Psytrance often have much more atmosphere and is not intended to blow up the subwoofer as dubstep and other electronic music.

How long is this song? Are you done or is it longer? Psytrance tend to be progressive and have multiple parts, almost like a symphony. But that does not mean it's important.

I'm liking it so far. You could probably tone down the panning just a little bit. I've found that panning doesn't need to be very extreme for it to be effective, so try to keep the pot fairly close to the center.

Otherwise, I look forward to hearing what else there is to this.

Good point. The intro is longer than what is in the teaser, but that is because it isn't very good to listen to at the moment. The track I estimate to be 7~9 minutes long, but we'll see how the peices fall into place. Also though I agree the bassline isn't there to be woffer fodder, it does need to be solid and rolling, so I'll put it in context with how the tracks sound. Thanks for your help!

Actually, I was thinking about changing that, as it looses some precence in the track because of it. However, i would still use extreme panning on delays and Sfx, but I'll see if that will work. It also gives the listener some stereo excitement, I find, and give some width to an otherwise quite mono track. Still, thanks for contributing!

As for stereo excitement, I prefer to provide that using ping pong delays and stereo delay. I'll use hard panning occasionally, but usually with the higher-pitched percussive elements to make them sound really trippy.
