Eh, the audition itself wasn't quite as bad as I expected, but I still felt like I was in way over my head.

Interview was awesome though ^_^

Hopefully I'll see you there, brother.

Am I the only one who thinks Wooden Toaster's style is absolutely awful? Seriously. It is terrible.
Every single time I hear anything of his or any thing that sounds like his style I get all super depressed and can't make any decent music whatsoever.
The style is basically to take all the most annoying sounds ever and put them into a super cluttered melody that is super annoying usually (except for in the case of Rainbow Factory).
And he is so frikken popular! Why?
After making music for 4 years it seriously gets annoying seeing stuff like this rise to the top.
And again I get depressed and useless as a musician...sometimes for months at a time. (I hate it)

Anyone else have this problem with any other artists ever? It doesn't have to be Wooden Toaster.

I will cut you

But I will say that I hate Eptic's style. 'Oh, let's get the most goddamn annoying shit we can find and throw it into a song, then slap a half-assed drop onto it and get a bunch of views'. His song that got on UKF was just horrendous.

The ones I consider really overrated are Silva Hound and dbpony (and probably AssertiveFluttershy). I have yet to hear any of their songs that I actually enjoy ('cept Booooring). Every single song that I've by them has some really glaring flaw that bugs me to no end.

Also, WT is (IMO) is a really good musician. He works incredibly well with melodies (especially his vocal composition) and has a really unique style. His stuff is quite polished, too

If you actually take a look at the midi files you'll realize that the melodies are actually quite complex and well structured. Anyway...

For me, those artists (in the fandom) are Replacer, AcousticBrony, and Archie. Especially Archie. Seriously, fuck that guy.

I just don't get why Replacer is hailed as being a musical god. He's just not that good IMO. And Archie is a massive douchebag.

Same for AcousticBrony, except without the 'not being good' part. He's good, just not 'musical god' good. Archie should fucking kill himself.

Have I mentioned that Archie should go hang himself/burn in a ditch?

He's just... a massive douchebag. It's not his music I've got a problem with, it's his douchey, self-centered, conceited attitude, what with basically using the fandom as a means to propel himself to well-known-ness. Also, that fucking Monstercat song is so conceitedly titled. Plus it was a collab and he apparently neglected to tell Monstercat, so they took it down (temporarily I think).

So yeah, fuck that guy.

huh. As a non-EDM dude I can say I never felt any sort of dislike towards these people. Mainly because I haven't really talked to them anyways.

I was wondering, who is Archie anyways? I downloaded one of his songs while doing algebra or something and I only listen to it then.. but I really don't know who he is. Is he really popular? He doesn't seem to have very many songs posted anyways.

You can't say bad things about AcousticBrony though. At least in their early days they were a very virtuosic band. Like, listen to this without crying.
I can see how some people don't like their newer music because most of it is just goofing around or collabs. Which brings me to another point. Although the songs "I'll Fly Higher" and "Loyalty" are some of my favorite songs of all time, I feel like it is MandoPony's voice that really makes them special. I mean, they are talented musicians in AcousticBrony but the solowork is not great.

So yeah, MandoPony is the real musical god, and the guys in AcousticBrony are his disciples. :) jk

He's a pretty talented Progressive House producer that came around the end of 2011 I think. He's also been working on a real music career, which is great. As for popularity, I recall him having somewhere between 20k and 40k followers on YouTube, last I checked. His "Here and Now" got in the top 25 progressive house releases on BeatPort.

He's got a ton of music. I'm pretty sure I have almost everything he's released, which comes out to about five hours of music (some of them are duplicate like radio/club edits, but whatevs).

My personal tutor for electronic music is the head to the electronic music dept. at Butler University. This is awesome, but the musical style he wants me to make is really avant-garde musique concrete and the like. This isnt all bad. I am expanding my limits, but I don't take enjoyment out of making it. It doesnt flow naturally for me...

Oh and on the matter of famous brony musicians: i don't know any of them personally so I won't judge, but I think it's unfair that many of them got so popular just because they had a few tracks on Balloon Party. And those who act all high and mighty just for doing so.

Yeah, I will give AccousticBrony a seal of approval music-wise. But to me..they kinda just sound generic. I mean, some of their work just sounds like too much other Acoustic Rock to really interest me. I guess I'll make this into a lil' rant.

I'm not a huge fan of acoustic music. A lot of the musicians, I find, are doing pretty similar stuff. Now, before you go off on EDM doing that to, I have the same gripe with EDM. I don't like it when an artist imitates other sounds and does that and only that. I mean, it's all well and good to be able to make an Aviici-esque track, but I've seen people who do JUST that and never get anywhere on a sound that's uniquely their own. Bringing this back to Acoustic Brony. I've seen some acoustic musicians do some pretty unique and interesting things, but most of what I hear from AcousticBrony doesn't fall into that category in my opinion. Now, I'm not blowing smoke out of my ass here, I'll give reasons on a few tracks now. Some I kinda like, some not so much.

First off!
Kindness.

Yeah, I freakin' love Fluttershy, but I swear I've heard the same distorted guitar riff and those same drums and the same vocal style in too many other songs. But they don't open on a flanged guitar, so points in their favour for that.

Pinkie Pies Theme

They haven't really given me so much to hate about this. The guitar is interesting, they make some good use of panning on the guitar and heck, it's got a good blend of energy and mellow-ness. Ok, good job then.

AcousticBrony and PrinceWhateverer - Breaking Bonds (ft. Mando, MHM, Lulz, George)

Welp. I'm sorry. No. Just...I...what do I even say about it..? -sigh- Metalstep doesn't work very well. And I'm not really big on Rap either. But that's another story.

I know it isn't my choice on the matter, but nonetheless, it bothers me. And I'll stress that these are just my opinions, there's no need to get defensive. I hadn't really vented my thoughts on why I dislike acoustic music, so it seemed appropriate.

TL;DR I bitch about AcousticBrony for a while, don't be a defensive sillypants.

Just a reminder and a warning, next time comments will be deleted and warnings will be handed out.

This is not a thread dedicated to complaining about people you don't like, or to give your opinion of their character or musical skill (or lack thereof). This is a thread to talk about your feelings, discuss personal problems, and offer advice to others who need help or comfort those who need comfort.

If you must rant here about people you've never met, who have no impact on your life, and try to spread a negative opinion about them, you can take it to PM or skype.

Thanks, Makkon, for keeping this thread in check. If you have a beef with another musician, do it in private. Thankies!

On the opposite side of the coin, just your generic depression and lack of inspiration here. I've been working my flank off for EFN's 80s week coming soon, so a lot of it is sapped from that.

I feel a bit silly now. I was a bit bleh when I typed that out and I wasn't really thinking right.

Consider this a formal apology to both the mlr community (this ain't the first time I've acted stupid here), and AcousticBrony. You're right Makkon, I have no grounds to rant at them, I've never met them nor will I likely ever with that kinda attitude.

Sorry, guys.
