<Non-pony><WIP><Drum & Bass> Forgotten

Postby Genkar » 20 Jan 2013 20:26

A project I started earlier today, I really feel like it could use some cleaning up and the general structure could use work. I really don't want to finish it before I get feedback.

It's sounding pretty good so far, I like the melody going through there. Although I don't know much about Drum & Bass, I would think the drums could stand to be a bit more interesting and varied throughout the song. Not so much that there's no recognizable beat, but change it up every so often and return to a central beat that comes in and out throughout the song. And maybe even make the drums a bit more energetic to match that melody.

Just my thoughts :)

Yeah, I never really looked too much at the drums until now, but apparently I only used 2 main patterns, lol, so I'll definitely have to change that.

Added hi-hats, varied drums up a bit more, and added an outro.

I think the harp-ish instrument is a bit loud. kind of overpowers it especially at the beginning. In the newer version the high hat is also overpowering at the beginning, but once the bass kicks in it sounds ok there.

Hmmm, the other two things I would say is that it needs more bass, and less treble. The bass sounds themselves are good but they just need to be raised up a little bit. And lastly the crash at 0:43 should be something else. Instead of a crash try something more industrial or harsh/distorted. I think it would make the transition more dramatic :)

OVERALL though, I love it! As it is, it's pretty good sounding!

Yeah, turn down the harp thing a bit, and maybe even take out the hats until the bass kicks in. Or you could just tweak them. Something like that.

Thanks, I kinda was getting the impression that it needed more bass, but I really wasn't too sure. And it was at C# and I moved it up to D, and it definitely sounds better.

That crash at 0:43, I replaced with a ride and put some distortion on it and it sounds really cool there. I also lowered the volume on the hi-hats and the harp a bit.

Honestly, overall I'm not incredibly satisfied with it, but I'm glad you like it! xD

Sounding better!

If you're still not happy with it, you can do a few things (assuming you're having trouble figuring out what to change). You can see if anyone else says anything in this thread, show it to some more people, and/or set the thing aside for a few days or a week, and then come back. That's a technique I was given for writing papers for school (though I rarely had the time to wait before revising them) and I think it's applicable to anything creative.
