The hugging/venting thread

Sports, politics, movies, videogames, questionable hobbies, photos from your family vacation, etc. Talk about stuff that isn't ponies or music. But do try to stay on topic and respectful of alternate opinions.

Alright, so next semester I'm taking an intro to electronic music class, for several reasons (namely, easy credits, easy A, plus I had to take it if I was gonna take beginning guitar).

If it's an easy A, simply do it. Negotiate with your teach on what program you're going to use, being as complacent as possible, and then simply outwit and outplay the class.

But I know that feel, bro.
One time I got bumped down from a 'Gifted And Talented' (hoax for the smart kids) maths class. Went from exponential logarithmic equation graphing to graphing straight lines on a piece of paper.
Not fun. >:/

All my feels....

I had a childhood that was mainly flipped at my teenage years. I got involved in a criminal instance which, if I talked about, would change the way people and society see me. At that point, I had a real identity crisis, some of which I'm resolving still. I can really relate...

I just feel like shit right now. No idea why. I tried working on a song and got next to nothing done in the ~3 hours I spent in FL. I've been having headaches daily for over a week now, and I'm pretty sure that's only because I decided to drink out of a smaller fucking coffee mug. First day back to school was alright, I definitely missed seeing all of my IRL friends, but I did little more than sit around for the better part of each class. And tomorrow are my two hard-as-fuck classes, neither of which I'm looking forward to. And there's the idea that this is my last semester of high school. After this, I have to deal with my goddamn future, which I feel like I've prepared for awfully, if at all. I expect to horribly choke at my audition for Berklee, which means I'll probably be stuck with a crappy school. And most of my friends desperately want to at least get out of this town, while I'm only even applying to two school out of the fucking state. And since I'll be juggling inevitably challenging college courses and music, and will probably have to be careful with whatever financial aid I end up getting, and since I'm seeing family in two states this coming summer before heading off to school, there's no spot in the foreseeable future when I'll have anything resembling a chance to go and see my boyfriend at the other fucking end of the country.

Sigh.

Normally I have little trouble acting like everything's fine, and that everything will work out nicely. What the fuck happened.

First off, school is not the end all be all. Yes, it is good and can open doors, but keep in mind, in the music industry, skill, hard work, and competence are king. The rest will follow.
And hey, you are applying to Berklee?! Thats kickass, so did I! What instrument/major are you going for? I can give you ideas about what the audition is like. You should realize that for most instruments, it isn't all that hard to get in.

What happened? You obviously brought this up for a vent-able reason. Did your mother like the fact that you were moving on (and if possible, did she find out about the ponies)?

Sorry for taking such an interest, this is just so much like my parents...

Procrastination is a real bitch. Most of you probably don't even know what a YTPMV is but I've been planning to make one for a very VERY long time now and every time I sit down to start editing, I just can't. I don't know why but it's really annoying. Obviously not as bad a problem as everything else in this thread (hugs to anyone who wants one btw). Just needed a place to rant on for a bit and there was nobody online on steam :/.

BUGHUGS to EVERYPONE!

You know what would be great? To get this uni music project done. Problem is it will never be finished until they get the choreography just right. On top of that, I just get lost in the (almost 30 now) separate songs that I'm working on.

I guess I'm not really venting anger or frustration. It's just a matter of impatience with myself and with the practice schedules. I'll be fine, I just need some more spare time away from classes. o yea- and faculty check for the program is next weekend . . .

How 'bout this: What do you enjoy? Start from there and make a career out of it.

My turn! So first, I said some things a couple days ago. Won't be happening again, and I've apologized to everyone I needed to. Second, since starting college, my work ethic has done a 180 (the good kind), but years of slacking off have made me unable to appreciate my free time (I feel like if I'm not working, then I'm slacking), and it's starting to get to me.

Has anyone else noticed that the brony community (the music community at least) has kind of stopped being for the good of the "herd" and more self serving? This might just be me, but I'm starting to get a bit of a vibe from this website, especially, that the top musicians have basically reserved the spotlight for them and their friends.

Not to sound like a disgruntled newbie musician (cause I kinda am, lol) but it's honestly starting to piss me off. I could be completely wrong, but has anyone else in my position gotten this same feeling?

I kind of see what you mean, but a lot of the top of pops (Like Mando, pretty good friend of mine) has a big heart, while some of the others yes I see clearly. Sorry to hear that.

I don't feel this site is anything like that truly, I get feedback whenever I need help from anyone, which truly is useful. There's also the matter of PM'ing people, what I've learned in time is that people aren't that bothered with helping you out as you might think (I thought this way), infact, some people LOVE helping others.

As for the Brony music community, I believe there are some people with self-centred egos, and it's quite obvious to see, but within this site I barely notice it, if notice it at all.
