<pony><remix>Raise this Barn (Yay finished!!!)

Postby MRPPony » 05 Jan 2013 02:32

Hopefully I'll get some feedback because I'm seriously stuck on this. Is the rhythm good? Is there a good flow going through out the track? Does this sound good overall? I'm always like this when it comes to house because I just love it so much. Please let me know if something should be changed/removed/blahblahblah. Not going to be in some kind of competition but if by some miracle I'm chosen to be a performer at an upcoming bronycon, I want the ravers to dance to something good, ya know?

Basic mixing (just to give you an idea what I'm going for) and not mastered

Also, this is part 1. I'm remixing this song twice within the same track because APPLEJACK FINALLY GOT HER OWN SONG AND ITS SOOOO GOOD! I LOVE YOU APPLEJACK!!! >///< -ahem-

This is actually sounding pretty damn nice, I don't have any criticism for you!

But i'll come back and listen a few more times to be sure I don't miss anything.

It's a nice track, but the intro is really long. Long intros aren't necessarily a problem, but it might help the flow of the song if you had a bit more variation in that part, specifically the soft section at 1:00. (P.S. I'm not trying to be rude; that's just my 2 cents)

Alright, I have a bit more that you might consider tweaking:
First is the drums. In the beginning they're great, but when they're brought back in around the 1:12 mark they're not quite as prominent, so you might want to make them just a bit louder so they're more distinguishable above the rest of the music.
Also, the record scratches that come in around 1:12 and 2:40 could stand to be a bit louder, but that's more of my personal opinion.

But overall I thought it was a really good track and it flowed pretty nicely. I think it's great like it is, but if you take Meso's advice and vary the intro a bit, it wouldn't ruin it.

I know you're not being rude; Although I just generally make my music 'dj friendly' all the time so it always sound so plain and boring to sit through hehe. Ahh my old nemesis variation. I'll see what I can do with that cause sometimes I think I'm adding variation but I'm not really but I'll try and make the intro more interesting. Haven't thought of what yet but I'll come up with something.

Yeah I didn't properly mix/master it yet, but since you suggest making the scratches louder that I'll do. I tried it in another song I did a while back but wasn't sure if louder scratching would sound good to others or not.

Anyway, thanks for the feeback Sonarch and Meogears. Seriously a big help cause it took me roughly 2 hours just getting on my feet with this track lol (no joke). Glad its so far turning out decently well.

Yep. Finally got part 2 done and instead of using presets for mastering like I normally do, I took the time to master it myself. So everyone let me know what you think of this. I mixed/mastered everything with headphones so ya lol.

I like what you did with the intro. The buildup is MUCH more effective now!

If I didn't mention this before, the dynamics around the one minute mark are very effective. But the synth that takes over the singing melody at 4:22 sounds like it's a bit too out of tune or something, it just stuck out to me. But other than that it sounds really nice and polished! I'm really liking this!

Lmao thanks though. Someone just saying, "I like it" is good for me cause I think all my music is bad :P

Mesogears wrote:I like what you did with the intro. The buildup is MUCH more effective now!

Oh good thanks! Yeah I tried a bunch of stuff even all out glitching it but glad this is much better for the intro.

Its because on my Oscillator A, I have the Octave -1 instead of 0. It sounded a bit too '8-bit' and flat on 0. Fine for the house section, but didn't want that for the HHC section. But I did went back and checked to make sure the theory was correct and played it with the vocals and everything's on key. So yeah sorry, that's my oscillator :P. Say you're sorry, Oscillator A!

Oscillator A: Faq you, fat ass.

Well then...¬_¬

Edit: No, you're right. I double checked the melody (need to know the difference between lead and melody -.-) and some notes were playing F instead F#. Thanks for bringing that to my attention otherwise I'd completely miss that and be as embarrassed as Applejack after she destroyed the barn.

Anyway thanks for the feedback, everypony. I'm just gonna redo the mix for the interlude with AJ and Granny because it was a bit too loud for the overall mix and remaster it then release the final here. Omg Applejack is so...SO BEST PONY JUST....RRRRAAAGGGHHH!!!!

I think there are some subtle harmonic mistakes in this song. 1:38-1:42 these two chords sound not QUITE right. Didn't notice anything wrong after the beginning, though.

This is straightforward and executed solidly. I think this genre (dance? energy? whatever) precludes you from doing anything crazy, so you've done as good as a job as you can for this :)
