I clearly suck at dubstep :)

I don't quite remember when I started this project, but I had the basic idea (the arp and that steely noise thing) down since mid-December. This was finished a while ago, probably back in 2012, and I just now got around to it again. I liked it, so I tweaked it a bit, mixed it some more, and mastered it before releasing it.

As usual, go to town with the criticism. I can always handle it :3

Alright, I got quite a few things to point out on this one. I feel like the background noise (not sure if it's a pad or just a sample you used) is much too loud the entire song. It's supposed to support the rest with some sort of back-up, but it's completely audible the entire song. Of course, that might've been stylistic approach. The drums sound really bland and just uninteresting. In fact, they sound just like the ones I used in one of my dubstep songs, and if anything, that song exists to show you what not to do. Maybe you could give it some interesting sparkle to the percussion if you mess with some compressors on them.

Also, this isn't really dubstep. It has a bit of wobble and stuff like that, but it usually is in the back. I'm not sure what this is, but it isn't dubstep. Regardless, I'm judging it on what it is as a whole.

The melody of track was nice to listen to, and the sounds complemented each other nicely. Despite the constant background noise, everything was pretty easy to hear. It was an interesting idea that turned out pretty well, so not bad.

Edit: Changed that now to not. That made me sound a bit like a jerk, but not is what I meant. :I

The noise thing in the background (not a sample btw) was both to 'support' the track by filling in a lot of frequencies and making it sound fuller in addition to having kind of the stylistic approach of a kind of superstorm, hence the name 'Digital Superstorm'. I intended for it to be heard throughout the song. I designed it kind of like an almost-metallic sandstorm (comb filters yay :3).

I'll admit I could've spent more time on the drums, to be honest :/
And now looking back on the project file, I realize I didn't have nearly as much processing on them as I thought, which is unusual for me. Should've double checked that before releasing this, but whatever, too late now :3

I called it dubstep because the song is at 140 BPM with the drums in halftime, additionally it is structured like fairly typical dubstep, at least with the 'drop' portion. There wasn't a breakdown section though. It's not really a genre, so I just through it in to the category of dubstep. Thinking on it I really should just label these as 'Electronic', as nondescript as that sounds.

And thanks, about the melody. Working in minor as opposed to major really changes the feel of my tracks, not drastically but everything doesn't sound so upbeat like everything else I've ever made with a few exceptions :3

And I have no idea what you changed with that edit :/

if it were me I might try sequencing 3 different bass synths instead of using only the talking synth.

What.

The talking growl is used for the buildup.

There is no bass synth.

The melody during the drop is the exact same synth as the arp near the beginning.

I accidentally wrote "In fact, they sound just like the ones I used in one of my dubstep songs, and if anything, that song exists to show you what now to do." At the end, I meant not, but wrote now, which sounded much more douchey.

Ah, I gets it. I didn't think that sounded douchey, and I truthfully wouldn't mind even if it did

I'm really digging that saw. It could be a smasher if you added some wobbles and crazy sounds in there to go along with it, but it sounds great as it is too. Nice work!
New track in the works!!
