<Pony><Original>We're Still Alive

I just felt like making a song about the fandom and such. I also reference the silly "end of the world" hubbub. I guess the message is that, well, we didn't die (obviously), and the brony fandom is still alive and strong, and we should just move on from the bad times (like Derpy being changed, or something. idk).

I'm gonna be honest, when I saw the cover, I was expecting one of the typical low-tier songs, but you delivered quite well.

You're singing was quite nice, although it was a bit sketchy at parts. You should double-check your vocals a few times to make sure you got them perfect. Also, I feel like some parts could be improved by doing a line twice and putting both the recordings there to harmonize.

Also, although you definitely had enough vocal space, I feel like you weren't adventurous enough with your instruments. It seemed like you were playing it safe by only having drums and bass, but there was no material backing up your vocals much.

However, overall, it was a pretty nice song. Good job.

Diggin it. I especially like the harmonies in the hook; nice tone on that octave.

In the verses you seem to hold back on some consonants, namely b and p (bronies; ponies). You are communicating the unaffected style pretty well, but occasionally it feels a tad more uncomfortable. I'd say just work on your diction more until you can achieve as neutral/clear an accent as possible.

ps. what kinda mic are you using for those vocals? I'm a bit iffy on the sound, but I understand we've all got our limitations.

I'm using the blue snowball, and my radio sound EQ setting on the verses. It's ok, I guess, but I've heard a mic like that is better for instruments, and it seems to pick up a lot of noise in the room. I used an eq that cuts off the first vocal harmonic to differentiate it better from the bass. I've heard this in many other songs (sometimes even performed live), and I feel like it eliminates unnecessary clutter in the bass. I would have cut it even more in the high end as well to get more of the radio effect, but then the "s" sounds become very unclear. Also, the P's just downright sounded terrible and poppy if I didn't get rid of lower frequencies. Also, with my voice on any harmonies, I just HAVE to put a cut at 3,000 Hz or else the vocal jumps out a lot (especially with "eh" sounds). There's simply too much energy there, and I can't control it.

Oh, and the mic will clip like a mother if I'm closer than 18 inches from it, and then the sound is suddenly quiet any farther. It has proved to be a problem, since sitting anywhere else will actually change the tone of my recorded voice, and trying to correct that is hell.
