Eh, hold off on that one, this idea in general just seems kinda terrible. The bandwagony sort of terrible. And a lot of the insufficient effort kinda terrible. Your sample still has clashing bgm in it, the the synth bells sound like they belong in trap, not in this song, the bass sounds really cheap, hard cuts.

Really, the whole thing is insubstantial, muddy, and lacking any sort of athmosphere. Everything from the synths, the amount of instruments, the drums, and the sample could use a lot of work.

Build your arena, then let your gladiators duke it out, don't start throwing stuff out there willy nilly.

As for this, I'd really just make something else.

I mean, I made really shit stuff when I was starting out too. You kinda gotta work out your production muscles a bit before you throw stuff on youtube. Get a soundcloud, man.

I'd also invest a little time in music theory. Like, scales and chords and shit. To learn what works and what really doesn't work.

Don't give up, just keep trying man. Aim to improve.

I'll have to agree with vladnuke this song is really muddy and nothing really fits the melody or whatever it is, is in a weird scale that I don't even think exists... And the bass is just so bleh that it over powers everything. I'd invest time in learning theory, how to compose, sound dynamics etc. and also soundcloud is good for putting random things up as you practice

Everything is cool except that the high pitched synth sounds like it's in the wrong key and the drums don't match the 8-bit theme you've got going on here, they're too club for this song. Throw in some more white noise on the snare, and a little square wave on the kick to give it more character. The flute should either be given more presence (reverb, release, dimension) to make it better as a motif or turned into an 8-bit instrument. It's kinda like datsik but not dubstep.

Pachelbel's Canon remix? Interesting.

I can't really say much until I hear the full instrumentation. If you get hung up on the chiptune style, try happy hardcore instead. I definitely felt some Scott Brown vibes while listening.

As for me, this track will be serving as an interlude of sorts, thus the short length. The drum patterns are somewhat of a hybrid between Gavin G and trapset drumming. I don't know if I can do much more for the vocal samples. If I crank them any more, they'll start distorting.

Quite nifty. Genesis-era Sonic the Hedgehog meets acid house Daft Punk meets Camo & Krooked. Is this for a video game?

Hahaha my music always gets compared to Sonic music always. But I'm going to have vocals over it actually. I'm thinking maybe a Rainbow and Rooted submission, but I have to see if the end product will be good enough. Otherwise it's just a fun song!!

I took a gander at the track. What is the chord structure, and is there any mode mixture? The notes don't necessarily sound wrong, but they're off-setting, especially in the bells. This might be for artistic reasons. If so, I simply couldn't tell.

Theory aside, I definitely have to crack down on the wobble. It does overtake everything, so simply lower its volume. As a general rule of thumb, your synths should rarely (if ever) have priority over the percussion.

Okay, Okay calm down what I meant by theory is theory related to dance music. I didn't mean to offend >< I was just speaking my mind ;_; If I were you I'd get the book called Dance Music Manual. It's a really good book that goes over synthesis and heaps of other stuff by genre in detail it's amazing.

Added some percussion to the chords. Trying to work out something for the sax to do.

Sounds like a bari sax. I'd start by swapping it out with a tenor and seeing how it sounds. I just think the line would sound better in a higher range (nothing against bari saxes in general).

Cloud wrote:http://dl.dropbox.com/u/84260720/Failure%20Success%20Song%20RMX3.mp3

lmao

It seems like the dirty synth needs less priority than the more melodic lines -- the vocals, upper synths, etc. Consider ducking it under those lines. At the moment, the volumes of the two forces seem... interruptive, or clashing.

At the moment, it's just a place-holding, generic sax sound.
I might grab one of mine at some point and get a legit sax in. That sounds like a good idea.
If only I could finish something.

Our current workload:

Unfitting themes for Rainbow Dash (Almost done!), Rarity, Twilight Sparkle and Big Mac (kind of).

A (melodic) hardcore song for Rainbow and Rooted

A pseudo-shoegaze song

A chillwave song (well trying for chillwave)

Maybe a song for that mule, cause he is one of the coolest characters in the show.
