Mind you, I've never done ANYTHING musically my entire life up until the point of these songs.

I've been playing instruments since I was 10 or 11 (25 now), so I was already familiar with a lot of music theory and reading notation (well, at least the treble clef).

Electronic music is a whole different game though, so while having some background in music helps a little, it definitely doesn't make the jump to electronic any easier.

It was a dark winter in early 2009. 8th grade, and our poor school district got a grant to give everyone mactops. We enjoyed these fine computers, especially some of the programs on them. One of these programs was GarageBand (though what we loved most was the Halo:Combat Evolved demo for the Mac. Many a good english class (and US history and lunch) was spent playing Halo but that didn't come with the computers.) I, who rarely listened to music then (and with a distaste of the music industry), decided to use this program. And so I did. Out came this monstrosity. Overtime I came to hate this music, representative of my ignorance. But after learning of the beauty of outsider music, I once again love this song.

This looks fun. =P
I found my old Myspace account. This one was back in my first year of high school. (audio recorder only recorded the first 3 minutes)

My first song is long gone as well, perhaps for the best. I was only 13 when I made it, and I'd had no prior musical experience whatsoever (well, I used to play trombone but I knew very little theory).

Compared to the stuff I make now, that song is pure and utter garbage. Horrible mixing, repetition, bad drum samples, no mastering, chromatic notes, it just sucked. At least I didn't use a single preset...

Hold on. I had composed several midi songs on Noteworthy Composer long before I made "Sedentary Lifestyle", so I guess the one I posted doesn't really count. Too bad I don't have any of those anymore. Or at least I don't want to search for my old laptop and pull the files out.

I found my first completed work kicking about on youtube. Looking back on it...good lord I almost feel guilty for releasing this...

It's horribly mastered, the drums are made of bleh and I used DBlue Glitch on EVERY FUCKING THING. And The vocals are just....*shudders*

Needless to say, I'm pretty embarrassed by this track :S

I have a few things for this. But let me preface it all by saying that I had written for piano in the past. This was the first time I wrote for anything other than that. Needless to say, it's not good. The first one wasn't even FLStudio, but MuseScore.

Well... I lost my first song with the death of my computer (more than one year ago...)
But I can give you all my first brony song.
I'm still proud of it, even though I messed up the singing and the mixing. After all, it took me six months to finish the instrumental... and I ruined everything with the vocals, yay ! :D
I guess I'll someday ask if someone else can record the lyrics.
Oh, and it's sung in french, just so you know before discovering it.

That's tough for me cause I started making music by recording shitty rock songs with my friends on my dad's minidisk recorder when I was about 9. Then I migrated to FL studio when I was 11 and released my first techno song. Doubt it's still around, that was 6 years ago.

Yes, I've been making music for 6 years.

Oh man, this is awesome!

This is kind of a combination of the first two tunes I wrote on piano. I think this was also my second stab at recording anything, and the first time I successfully recorded midi through a keyboard.

This is my first publishable song, made in April 2012 - I made it when I was super depressed, and that opened me up to what I could do as a musician. (It just goes to show that every emotional state has its good sides and bad sides, and you just have to use it right).
https://soundcloud.com/patashu/patashu-in-the-stars-nsf
Good part starts at 1:58, intro is nice but slow
Anecdote: During the solo, everything but the solo is in C-major and the solo is in a completely different key with many accidentals. I didn't know what a key was when I composed this so all I knew was that it sounded right so I went for it... When I looked back on it I wondered to myself if I was lucky, or accidentally did a legitimate music theory technique I don't know the name of XD (if you want to see the notes, download the .ftm and look at it in Famitracker)
