(Insert people's names here) - A Little Stop / Rundown

Postby VINXIS » 20 Dec 2012 19:22

The whole name is
VINXIS and Warbalist (Ft. Kyoga, Rhyme Flow, and Mutagen) - A Little Stop/Rundown (70 subs special)
It just didn't fit the title for the topic page... sorry :\.

ALSO tags that wouldn't fit either - PONY, ORIGINAL, COLLAB, SOFT ROCK?

Anyways... after half a year of laziness, rejections, and project crashes and projects that don't work anymore... it comes to this

I NEED A LOT OF CRITIQUE FOR THIS... SO PLEASE, DON'T BE COMPLETLY NICE... TELL ME EVERYTHING THAT'S WRONG WITH THIS... even though I've been told a lot of stuff already :IThank you : DD

The guitar(s) sound really dissonant with each other. The instruments really sound like they're clashing with each other, horribly. Mixing sounds like it definitely needs some work, because honestly, all I hear is a bunch of noises >_> but maybe that's just me. But the vocals are good. Only problem is that they don't fit in the song.

So yes... um... clashing instruments, and getting the vocals to fit in. Tbh, it sounds horrible. Unless this is some genre that I don't know about where clashing instruments are the point of it...

At some parts, this sounds like an instrumental of some kind - like the leads or the vocals are missing, especially until the vocals come in at 4:24.

The acoustic guitar in this song has a TON of unnecessary high end that is causing ear rape. I think you should use EQ to reduce that piercing high end.

I noticed the kick also has an excess amount of presence in the 5kHz and above area, and it sounds like the reverb is amplifying those high frequencies as well, which also makes it hard to listen to. I think you could reduce some of the high end from the kick as well.

Otherwise, I like this. It's a different style and it's quite nice, in my opinion.

The violin/strings are rather abrasive, if you can soften them up a bit maybe. The acoustic guitar and whatever other guitaresque instruments are going on there seem to be disagreeing with each other, I'd say switch one out and/or remove one. And I don't know what that steel drum is trying to do. That electric guitar bit is sick though, keep that. The percussion/beat is nice too.

Not bad for your first acoustic song, although what I'm gonna say was pretty much already said: In the beginning, the instruments sounds like they're clashing a bit and the acoustic guitar's high end is too damn high.

So I'll just talk about the arrangement. It sounds similar to post-rock, which in my opinion its a good thing, but it feels like a long buildup that's not going anywhere. Maybe shortening some things up a bit would help or adding a crash. Also the drummer...well you...feels like they're holding back so much and the only thing you can hear are the closed HH and kick drum and occasionally the snare.

I guess in short what I'm saying is give more to the drummer to give the song a bit of structure. Truth be told, you don't really need to, besides some EQ issues it sounds fine as is. That's more of an OCD thing for me; a song that feels "unstructured." Great collab though.
