Hey, I wondered if we could extend to Sunday?
TB is this topic and I'd like to showcase one of my songs there and then tweak before submitting.
I guess, I just wondered if the deadline was arbitrary and, if it was, if it could be changed.

I've already extended the deadline by two days, so no, I will not extend it further. You could just go to IRC and ask for opinions, though. It'd be basically the same thing.

How are you guys emailing WAVs? Seriously, they're huge enough to exceed the max file size.

Also, note that, if you get an email from "[email protected]," that's me. It's a fairly old email account, but I had to use it since Yahoo has YouSendIt, which is the only way I could attach a 44 MB file.

Bah, I've been on a boat det for the past month, and rarely had a fast enough connection to browse this site.

I just finished a remix of Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D-Minor, and was planning on releasing it on Halloween anyway. Would it be okay to use that as a submission to the album?

There shouldn't be any legal issues, and the song has been used for many Halloween themed movies and skits over the century. I think it'd make a nice contribution to the album theme.

I thought about doing that, but I didn't know if I could.

Oh well, I already attached it with YSI. Captain probably has it already.

The only way you'll fail is if you don't try at all.

I'm in the process of sending my .wav right now, but I'm afraid that it might not be loud enough.

For the past few hours I've been in a bit of a panic mode trying to figure out compressors and limiters since I don't know much about them yet. It's not terribly quiet, but it's definitely not as loud as the average track, and I'd rather have quiet than clipping.

I'll understand if this means that my work doesn't make the cut, even if that would be pretty disappointing for me. If anything, this experience gives me further reason to learn how those limiters and compressors work.

Besides that, thanks for starting this project! It has been a lot of fun to participate, and I've had the opportunity to try a genre that I'd never tried before while learning tons of stuff in the process.

I wouldn't sweat it too much. From past projects, I haven't seen loudness as much of a deciding factor as composition and mixing.

Protip: Mix your songs to about -5db (before mastering) to avoid most troubles with volume.

That's what I do at least. I never ever compress or limit the whole track. Hope your song gets on the album!

Thanks guys, and I'll certainly try mixing to -5db in future projects.
I hope I make it too, but if I don't, I won't worry about it too much since, like I said, I learned a lot from this. And it was fun.
So that's cool too.

I've mixed plenty of songs down to -24dB, but nobody's heard them yet.
