[Help!] Mixer / masterer wanted for pony post-metal

Postby Cherax » 12 Oct 2012 21:54

Here's a little taste of the debut song from Discord's Reign, a pony post-metal band featuring myself, VINXIS and Neon Jalapeno.

Notice how it's mixed and mastered poorly? That's because I've been making electronica for the last year, and I have no idea how to make actual instruments sound good. That's where you come in, dear reader! We're looking for someone who has experience in this area who can polish the track off, and help my crappy DI electric guitar recordings realise their full potential. (Yes, you'd be working with DI. Don't look at me like that.) You'll be mixing vocals, lead and rhythm guitars, bass, (synth) piano, and a beep-boop synth.

If you're up to the challenge, post a song below that shows off your production. I'll hit you up with a PM if we think your style best suits the song.

(I'm happy to send you stems so you can work with whatever DAW you like, but it'd be a big plus if you happened to use Ableton like me. Not only would sending you stuff be easier, but I'd also like to be able to learn from you.)

Well, I'm in the process of doing a mixdown for this song

Here's the mixdown so far http://soundcloud.com/gums-of-gabby/trixies-ballad-master/s-F3J7u

Basically I'm starting a course at college next year that involves a bit of mixing and recording (so excited) and want to get as much experience with different sounds as possible. So if you think I'm up to the task, you can add me on skype (gumsofgabby). I use FL Studios though...

I don't have time to do a whole mixdown, but I would gladly master it for you.

Hmm, this sounds like fun. Although the song is a bit cheesy/silly, I can do a decent mixdown. With this particular one, I kept everything under -6db and mastered with Maximus. This seems to be the best I've done in the technical side imo. Here's how it sonuds:

@GumsOfGabby and @KayinKento, while your mixes are fine, previous experience mixing metal is what we're after.

@the4thImpulse, we may take you up on that, thanks!

I'd be happy to help you learn if you'd like. I should warn you that it can be hard to do, but you know that by now :D does that sound anything like what you're looking for? I understand it's a little less edgy than typical modern metal.

Also, DI guitars is not a bad thing! It means the mixer will not be trapped with a bad amp recording, which can be impossible to work around in mix. Don't think for one moment that you messed up by recording the guitars direct- that is actually a lucky break!
