Earbud Suggestions?

Postby Sonarch » 14 Oct 2012 16:48

I'm looking to buy some new earbuds. For the past several months or so, i've had some cheap in-ear ones, like 20 dollar Skullcandies. The thing is, no matter how careful I am, they always stop working within a month or two. I use my earbuds literally every day to listen to my iPod, so they get heavy use, and I find the cause for their stopping working is usually because the wire that connects to the headphone jack gets disconnected, and a lot of times I think this happens because i'm walking along listening to music, and the wire catches on something and it rips the earbud out of my ear. The point is, they get heavy use and they tend to only last a month or so. What I want is a good pair of earbuds that can withstand all the heavy use I put them through, something really sturdy, and with decent sound quality (i'm hardly an audiophile about it though). But, I know nothing about these things. Could any of you suggest some nice sturdy earbuds for me?

Haha, I use $15 sonys from Walmrt, and they sound fine (to me) and last me for about 5-6 months every time.

I hate skullcandy though, the last pair I had I broke on purpose just to return them. To do it, you just put your mouth over the earbud and blow really hard into it. BAM! Broken without a single scratch.

Software: I'm original, so i use Sunvox. I used to use LMMS, but the crashing drove me insane.

I use $10 JVCs from Walmart. They last me up until my sister borrows them. They're fairly decent.

For a "quality" listening experience, I usually use my Sennheisers.

As regards to quality earbuds, I have no experience. You could always try Bose.

Whatever you do, don't buy Beats. They sound good and are sturdy, but the price is definitely not worth it compare to other earbuds. Bose seems to be equally as good or better for a lower price. There are others, but I don't know so much about earbuds.

Anything from here: http://www.monoprice.com/products/subde ... id=1082303

I use the $7 8320s quite regularly. The fit on those ones are a little uncomfortable at first, and the seal isn't very good for in-ear buds, but the sound is amazing when you consider they cost less than $10.

I have two pair of earbuds: Auvio Pearl Blue Earbuds (except mine's the one with the mic which doesn't work for my phone btw)
and: Beats by Dr. Dre iBeats

Beats was a gift cause there's no way I'd buy anything beats related with my minimum wage, hard earned money. For the record, they both sound great but beats gives you more bang since the earbuds are designed in a cone shape. But the problem with me is I LOVE loud music so......yeah I burned these out already lol. Max volume for hours a day. The right earbud is a lower volume on my beats and my Auvios just sound pretty...not as good since I've pretty much been spoiled by beats.

If you can, I suggest getting the Auvio headphones. Its so far been 3 months and they still work like the day I bought em. The only thing is the rubber on the jack is torn so the wires are exposing. I used tape to cover it just in case it rains, but so far no decay. Plus if you get it from RadioShack, they'll replace it for free. Gonna get on that pretty soon ^_^ I think the warranty lasts for a year.

I'd advise getting the Sennheiser CX300IIs. They're designed so that one earbud goes round the back of your neck and into one ear, while the other bud just goes straight into your other ear. I personally hate this feature but it sounds like it would suit your needs as they've NEVER EVER fallen out of my ears. This is pretty nifty too. Makes wrapping harder but keeps the wires inside safe from disconnecting or snapping

They also sound great! They cost around $80(AU) so they're not overly expensive, but well worth the money. I've had mine for about 8 months now and use them every single day (which I probably shouldn't because you know, risk of tinnitus), they've been dropped, squashed and dunked in water and still going strong.

In my honest, humble opinion this thread needs more saxophone you should get some cheap sennheisers for listening in hard conditions (I would suggest MX170, they are dirt cheap and last for like a year) because you won't even notice the slight lack of sound quality (even though mx170s sound great for their price) on earbuds when used in hard conditions because of no noise reduction.

oh, also, Sennheiser is really cool with warranty so you can get your listening device fixed with little to no problem
I personally rarely use my earbuds and stick to my AKGK402's because they excel in sound quality for the price, but are not earbuds so i have to keep them on my neck all the time when not listening.
the wire catches on something and it rips the earbud out of my ear.

try hiding the wire under your shirt

I've used red Koss PortaPros as my portable headphones for about one and half year now.

Before that I had a pair of Sonys like these:

They lasted for quite a long time - almost three years!

Well... I guess I'm lucky I don't have that issue. My smartphone has integrated beatsaudio hard/software and the set came with re-branded headphones worth ~$100 of the said brand. You might think that they're overrated, but they are awesome for modern, electronic music. Gotta love the bass - and 3 years warranty!

Best earbuds I've ever used:

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDR-ED12LP-B ... mdr-ed12lp

Frequency response is 8Hz all the way to 22,000Hz.

Less than $15, and you can usually pick them up at Sears for $10.

I'm using Klipsch S4is. Love em, and they run for around $100. Fantastic frequency response, (10hz - 19khz) they have a controller thingy on the wire, they come with this stupid tobacco tin thing that I lost, they are just GORGEOUS.

I think part of your problem is that your using Skullcandy. I have no idea how they are still around. I bought two full sized headphones from them back when they were getting started. Both of them stopped working on me, either by faulty wiring or blown drivers. I've never met someone that hasn't had problems with them. They're about as good as the buds that come with your iPod. Only difference is they look nifty.

My top picks are Shure, Sennheiser, Sony, and Panasonic. They are the brands that I have the most experience, and I've never once had a problems with them, nor have I ever had to replace them. I've had a particular set of Panasonic for about six years and I still use them today!

My friend is a strong advocate of skullcandy simply because of the warranty that gets him a new pair any time they break, but I think the 2 year warranty on Sennheisers if fine for me. If they last 2 years without breaking, i'm cool with paying for another pair.

THIS.

JVC marshmallow earbuds are some of the most comfortable earbuds I've ever had, and the sound quality is good, though maybe not great. Cheap, usable, and durable.

I just switched from to the marshmallow ones from the standard kind (JVC of course). I can actually hear the sub bass now!

I remember when I had a pair of Skullcandy earbuds. They stopped transmitting any audio for no apparent reason one day. My guess is that 50% volume on an iPod nano (3rd gen) is too loud for them. I have lost all respect for that company.

Also: The same thing happened to my brother 3 times because he's too stupid to switch to earbuds that don't break.
