"Second Chances" - Overlooked Tracks

Last day to submit. If you have a track that qualifies what have you got to lose? Will have a playlist up hopefully on sunday for what was submitted so people can begin listening and voting on their favs. Luckily there are indeed a few gems in the submissions.

Ok submissions are over. VOTING has begun. We got 25 submissions (and 2 hours of music) so we're going to whittle that down to just over half of the entries to put the compilation together.

We will give anyone the chance to listen through this selection and pick up to 10 of their favorites! Please select at least 5 tracks before voting. If you’ve entered don’t be afraid to participate in the voting as well (feel free to vote for yourself and your fellow favorite submissions). Voting will be open until September 23 and the tracks with the most votes that can fit on an 80 min or less compilation will make it onto the Second Chances cd (which will be free on Bandcamp). If you didn’t get a chance to submit your own track for this round look forward to future rounds. Please vote and reblog to let people to know to participate in this and future round!

I've contacted 10 people who had sufficient votes to place and also invited some of them to a skype chat. Big thing is I'll need a wav file of your winning track. I've got a few but not all. I'll find out the remaining ones on Sunday who will also be included but for some it's neck and neck (many with 5 or 6 votes while the people who have already placed have 9-14). Second Chances Vol.1 is out free on bandcamp. We need your help getting the word out so reblog it, tell your friends, and send to EQD even as we'd like people to check out how much great music is on this comp. I think we really got some great music on this compilation and it’s in an array of different styles and just goes to show a great track is great whether it’s viewed by a hundred people or a thousand and hopefully this will nudge some tracks to fitting the latter. Thanks to all who took part in this (whether you made it onto the compilation or not) and we aim to repeat this event on a monthly basis.

We also have a round 2 starting up so if you have a track with less than 1000 views from April-June of this year (that's 3 months) then get it to us (check to make sure it meets the other rules from the first round.) If you don’t have music that goes that far back don’t worry. When we get to a third round in a month we’ll pick back up where we left on round one (Aug 16-all of Sep tracks and then just do full months after that w/o any half-months).

Well I'm just waiting on EQD to publish this as they replied to one of your guys emails last week saying it was in the queue. Hopefully won't be too much longer. I looked at downloads and otherwise was quite disappointed in the stats of volume 1. Out of the 16 artists who contributed it looks like those were the only ones who downloaded it. Without a signal boost this project without increased attention will have to be changed or it will be a waste of time for all those involved. Sorry to bear bad news.

Well if anyone wants to send EQD another email and ask if our comp is still in their queue and will be published it would be appreciated. We've waited awhile since they said it would be. I will say now with EQD basically adopting our strategy of giving more musicians and tracks a second chance it does kill any future plans for a second edition of Second Chances from BMD in the way we planned. That and downloads for this project were pretty non-existent besides those artists involved who downloaded it. Nonetheless I'm glad we tried it, got to get better aquainted with each other's music (met some cool people), and the ultimate result may be that EQD adopted our concept for new submissions (which is still a good and much needed thing for the community). They'll have more success with it then we will and we can't copyright an idea.

If anyone wants to offer any alternatives given the current environment on ways that BMD can help artists in other facets or be a better and more involved site let me know. We would like it to be a place that people would want to revisit more than just the once and we'd like any suggestions we can get. We are actually looking for new help soon, as legion and lampy have officially left this last week due to busy real lives, so we need to fill up their absences with anyone who's looking for a way to contribute to this community in some fashion. It's not a load of work and there's some good company and shoulders to lean on

Well I'm deeply saddened that EQD said we'd be in the queue for this compilation in the first week of submission, we verified on several emails weeks afterwards that the only delay was because it would be released at the end of the month and to be patient, and then at the end of this month they release their string of brony albums and we were missing from that spotlight after waiting a month. I have someone who has been in email contact with them from the beginning to see what occurred and whether they'll fix that ommission (its called an edit button, blogger will allow changes in a post if they missed including it for some reason) but it just feels like we've been strung along with all these "be patient it's coming" emails over a month period. I think this disappoints all of us involved on this project.

That said, round 2......shall it be a reality and repeated round? I think we may have enough tracks that still qualify that people could submit their fav's and still get a great quality compilation.

Aug 16 through all of Oct? Backtracking didnt work but i think keeping it semi-current and bi-monthly may work. Thoughts....

Judging by the fact that we actually got the feature, I'd say go for it. There were still a bunch of great tracks that were overlooked before Music of the Day came along. And I'm pretty sure that there will be more overlooked tracks, even with MotD.

7. The track must not be used in a different (official) brony compilation. If your track was on Balloon After Party, Lesser Knowns, Aviators remix album, or any other event, let’s just say that you’ve had enough exposure and that track does not need to show up on a compilation twice.

Does this also mean Remix War entries or are those fair game as well?
