(Progressive Metal) Life With a Discordant Philosophy

Postby dropkickproductiontx » 06 Oct 2012 14:37

Hello, everyone! I'm very new here, and I just wanted to share some of my music with you guys and get to know you all! I thoroughly enjoyed making this song. It's heavily inspired by Animals as Leaders and Dream Theater. This song is all over the place because it represents, well, Discord; Spirit of Chaos. It has a few structural kinks that weren't quite resolved, but I'm overall happy with it. I hope you guys like it!

This is pretty amazing man! You went a tad bit too heavy on the compression but other than that it sounds awesome!

I look forward to hearing more stuff from you. We don't have nearly enough metal musicians.

:D thanks! And yeah, I went too heavy on the compression, mainly because I have no idea what I'm doing haha. That song was my first time ever using a compressor, actually. But what can I do to fix it or make it better in the future? Is it my threshold, gain, etc?

I think it's your threshold. I can't really notice the compression until it gets really heavy with all the instruments coming in.

To be honest, I kind of like the over-compressed sound. Like Metallica's "Death Magnetic" or your song here, but it's generally frowned upon so I try my best too make sure I don't compress too much.

Thanks for the tip, I'll try to fix it next time.
