Good Websites to Download Free Percussion Samples?

Postby ChocolateChicken » 07 Oct 2012 01:14

I'm currently looking for some quality percussion samples, in particular, snares.

I'm using Logic Pro, which seems to be heavily lacking quality in the electronic snare sample department, while being very sufficient in the kicks/hats/cymbals and acoustic snare sample department. Also, I do not wish to purchase anything, so it's best if anybody knew about any links to websites or web pages that offer FREE and quality samples to anybody without the use of signing up for anything or answering any surveys. You know... links that can actually be trusted.

To be more specific, I'm currently trying to find hard electronic snares, of which you'd usually find in most "hard" and "heavy" genres of electronic music such as electro house, dubstep, or drum n bass. I'd prefer that they also don't sound like crap. Just because something's cheap doesn't mean it has to sound cheap.

I trust that those who have downloaded samples before have remembered such links.

I'd like to thank GumsOfGabby, DJGaugen, and Gray Ham for not taking 30 seconds to read the initial post and failing to notice how specific it is. If you don't have anything productive to add to a help thread, then you don't have to add anything to a help thread.

They've given you really good places to start. No one is going to be able to give you the exact samples you want 100% of the time. You'll need to do some legwork of your own and put some research time into it. You'll even have to fiddle with the samples yourself when you actually get them set up in your DAW so they sound just right for your track.

Places to start? Looks like yet, ANOTHER user didn't read the initial post. Jesus Christ. This is almost getting entertaining now.

I read your post perfectly fine. I also read your second post where you said you didn't want to do any follow-up legwork. That's what I replied to.

You want some snares, eh? Fine, I can link you to some, happy to help...

Ohhh, so you want "quality" samples but don't have cash to spend (like the rest of us)? No problem. Here's a place where you can find loads of snares :D

Fair enough, you sound like an awesome person (for lack of a better, more fitting word...) and you should only expect the absolute best, because searching for samples yourself is just too fucking hard these days, am I right? You want electro/drum and bass/dubstep styled snares? They're in the link I sent you if you'd bothered to look beyond the title of the FLipside thread...

Examples include:

Not exactly drums, but added for specificity anyway

Hmm...they look fairly specific to me.

Get over yourself OP. Seriously, if you'd had even an ounce of initiative, you would have scrolled through the other websites mentioned which have an absolute fuck-tonne of snares that would suit your demands. Typing "snare" in to the search bar would have given you more snares than you'd ever need. If you want da big skrillexxx snares, you might want to learn how to process to get the results he does. There are no websites that feature super awesome, fully processed, ready-to-hit-the-EDM-market snares, that is a fact. Maybe you should look up some tutorials for how to make these "big" snares, rather than being a pompous prick on these forums. If you can't be bothered to put in just a little effort to search for what you want (IN THE LINKS GIVEN), maybe you re-think why you're making music in the first place.

Glad I could help. *smooch*

Thanks, LoreRD! I'm glad the MLR mods didn't lock this thread after all those spamming imbeciles up there, which would have prevented you from sending me the link. Very much appreciated!

Also to anyone interested, a friend of mine told me about boyinaband.com, who has copious amounts of free sample packs available on his website for download.

I highly recommend them to anybody looking for some brilliant percussion samples.

I'm bringing you specifics snare samples, they're free and HARD, made by yours truly. They'd go great in complextro, D'n'Butts, electro house, and dubstep. Shoot, you could put it in any "heavy" or "hard" genres!

You fool! These are obviously authentic sounding fart snares. Did you not read OP? Electronic snares were specifically asked for, geez

No matter what, you're not going to find a one in all sample solution. Even professionally made, expensive sample packs rarely have samples you can just throw into your track and call them good.

What makes heavy electronic songs have such heavy hitting samples isn't just a track with some snare samples on it. It's 2, sometimes upwards of 4 to 5 samples layered together, with various amounts of compression, panning, EQ, and reverb.

Hell, I've even made my own kick and snare samples to sound exactly like I want them, but when brought into my track, I still have to layer them in separate tracks, utilize parallel compression, and tweak the reverb and EQ to get them to sound right.

Long story short, you can't just have a single snare track with a quality sample and call it good.
DAW: Cubase 6.5, Ableton Live 8
Preferred Genre: Industrial/Trance
Hardware: Schecter Diamond Series Bass, Yamaha Acoustic Guitar, BP355 Effects Pedal, Keystudio 49K Keyboard, Akai APC40, Korg nanoKEY2 25k Keyboard
