What do you find yourself doing when...

you are bored and uninspired to do any thing productive?

For me I find my self in FL Studio with a simple dubstep drum pattern playing and me saying "Kick... Snare" along with the beat.

I watch MLP and get inspiration, i listen to other people's work and get inspiration, I visit Toast Beard and check out their recent themes to get inspiration, I listen to music outside the fandom to get style inspiration, and I revisit my idea queue if I need to work on something and I'm plum out of ideas or need a refresher. I'm never short on inspiration or things to want to work on, I'm short on TIME to get to them all.

If I'm tired of making music I blog or play L4D2.

I check all the forums and websites I regularly visit, and then once done with that, I sit and stare at my computer wondering what to do.

I go through my big ass music collection (just bought LA Uti, such a good album), put that shit on my montors, and just rock out.



Also playing Tribes Ascend is pretty inspiring, the game, while being an FPS, is also relaxing in a strange way.

Usually I write, because IthinkI'mmuchbetteratitthanmusic. That, or I practice sketching because I kinda need to get better at that. Anyways, I usually listen to classical while I do (mostly Haydn, Chopin or the occasional baroque), and that gets the creativity going. Usually.

If not, I just stick to writing and let myself cool off for a day.

Well I'm replaying Mass Effect from 1 to 3. But if that wasn't the case, I'd turn on my turntables and just play music either via timecoded vinyl or actual vinyl. I mess about with that, then hook my keyboard or guitar up and play with whatever I'm playing. That usually sparks something up in my head.

That or just eff about with loops/samples. Speaking of which, I did end up making something with just doing that. Took me 30 mins and it sounds like crap. Just how I like it :3

Usually cry myself to sleep, but y'know, that's when I'm not trying to work myself to death with art, music, and writing. Or y'know. Crying myself to sleep. That takes a lot of work.

I check MLR, Facebook, and Reddit, then open my DAW, load old unfinished projects, listen to them, and think either (1) I'm freaking brilliant! If only I could just FINISH some of these, they'd be AWESOME; or (2) nothing I've ever done is any good! I'm a terrible musician!

Then I check MLR, FB, and Reddit again. (Rather like bartekko's routine.)

... Uh, but yeah, learning new things can sometimes help. Watch TED talks and RSA animations. Sometimes getting out of the house can help. Listening to other music can help too. (I prefer classical, even though I don't make very classical music most of the time.)
