A song having to do with psychology

Postby Lyonize » 27 Aug 2012 15:42

I'm taking a psychology class and I have to find a song that has something to do with psychology in some way and write a quick paper about it. I can't think of anything other than Psychopathic Party Animal by Dave!. I will use that if I have to but I'd rather not kill everyone in my class. I like some of them.

Anyone have a song I could use?

Closest thing I can think of is Dream Theater's album, "Scenes From a Memory," which thoroughly involves hypnotherapy, which is KINDA related. For a specific song, use the first one, Regression. It's 2 minutes long, and really subdued. Just acoustic guitar and vocals, with some sound effects and voice overs.

Sorry I don't have anything that's ACTUALLY about psychology... there's probably a lot of better songs out there.

I love your taste in music. That is one of my favorite concept albums (up there with 2112). Staying on Dream Theater, their 42 minute song 6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence features sections about people suffering from different mental illnesses, such as bipolar disorder, ptsd, and post-partum depression. I guess these are related to psychology, if that helps.

And read the description of the video for an in-depth explanation of each section.

Because both of them are so epic. You can't contain it all in one post.

Maybe you could write how this song was sung from the view of the super-ego?

hehe, I love you too.

Not to go off topic or anything, but, I am impressed by all the love for Dream Theater and other progressive bands. Anyone who can appreciate the musical and lyrical artwork created by these groups is a friend of mine.

I swear System of Down would be very interesting to analyse when it comes to psychology and lyric
I don't have time for fancy signatures.

I like this. I just might use this. At the beginning before I talk about the paper I wrote, I have to show the song. I love shocking people with super heavy pony related music. XD

I came in here to suggest Metropolis Pt. 2 and Six Degrees, but it looks like those two were already covered

I'm trying to think of a good song for you, but I'm listening to Psychopathic Party Animal right now, and it's getting VERY HARD TO THINK

Ahem. Now that that's over: I second every suggestion that's been made so far, but also offer up The Flaming Lips. This is a song about realising the inevitability of death at strange, unexpected times. I hope that's on-topic enough.
