<dragon><original> Something I'm not

Postby Sgt-Whip (DJQ) » 11 Aug 2012 14:56

Here's the latest track of mine. I was trying to create something like what Omnipony creates, with a super heavy grunge feel to the drop, but I can't really live up to him.

Well, I hope people like it. Taking critical feedback as usual. I'd especially like to know what people think of the stereo, and if the drop has enough of an impact, or if it flows too evenly with the dominant sub of the track. Like, is the perceived volume of the track static, or does it climb for the drop and lower on the breaks?

Thanks,
Sgt-Whip

its very strange but it has replay value and it gets louder which i like it sounds OK its just not the greatest thing iv ever heard the drop is strange i think you need more buildup automating the cutoff frequency might help you there the whole song is strange. but its not bad

I like the drop, it sounds great and you have some really nice synths in there (also that second drop was a great mental image). There is at least a noticeable difference between the drops and breaks, but I think the build-up might need a little more to it. Unfortunately, I'm not all that amazing at producing huge drops myself, so I'm not too confident in how you'd do that...

Still, I think it does sound very good already.

Thanks, but I'm not sure what you mean. You'll have to be more specific about what you mean by the cutoff frequency. I'm already automating the cutoff before the initial first drop on the entire track. Are you referring to the cut on a specific instrument? Or do you suggest the second drop needs more of a swoop?

I guess thanks for calling it strange. Strange is what I do best it seems.

Thank you. Yeah, I don't know. Everything is sort of at the volume I want (though the kicks and snares could use more room) and I don't want to remove the sub bass early on in the track. Its hard to make the drop any louder because at that point I'm adding even more distortion with compression than is already there, and that will start to make it unpleasant in my opinion.
