Noisia / Kill the Noise Bass(line) Tutorial

Yes, I know it sucks.
I don't really know why (simple: I was very bored), but I felt like creating a tutorial on this style of bassline that I figured out how to emulate today.

No I didn't use Massive or Wow or Ohmicide, I used Sytrus, some filtering and Harmor.
But you can substitute Sytrus with FM8 or any other FM synth and Harmor with any sampler and some VST effects.

Ok, so I started out by making a nasty FM bass in Sytrus [Patch: Click Here]
It sounds like This

Then, I added a dry comb filter and a dry bandpass filter [Plugin is Bifilter 2]

And a little EQ (Yes, I know I'm bad at EQ'ing)

And finally a bandreject filter.

Then I made some quick automation on the cutoff frequencies of the three filters:

I got this sound.
Then I sampled the sound in Edison and dropped it as an image into Harmor for resampling.

I increased the quality of the resynthesis on the "Advanced" tab and added a little distortion.
Here's where the important part of Harmor comes in. The unison effect is very helpful in achieving these reese-y modulated basses. Check out this guy for some more info on this and resampling in Harmor.

Then, I sampled in Edison, and loaded it back into Harmor, and repeated the process.
After doing this a few times, I ended up with this sound.
Pretty good, but it's lacking movement. So I added a crude bandpass filter in Harmor.
Automate the cutoff a bit and play at C5.

I got this sound after that.

That's basically how I achieved the sound. Sorry that this tutorial is kinda confusing and really bad, I'm no good at tutorials, especially because I can't get camstudio to work :/.

Anyways, if you take the sound, sample it, chop it up, and add some drums and a sidechain, you can get a sound like this.

That's pretty much as in depth as I can go, but the basic gist of this technique is this:
1.Make a nasty FM or subtractive bass.
2.Add some filtering and EQ'ing.
3.Resample in the VST/Program of your choice.
4.(If you resampled in Harmor) Use the unison tab to wet the sound.
----Repeat 3 and 4 as many times as you wish
5.Add one last wet filter and automate, automate, automate.
6.Cut it up.
7.Add drums, heavy sidechain, and some mid range basses/synths.
8.Success :3

If you don't have any of the synths or filters et cetera, here is a sample of the end product bass, played in C so you can just load it into the sampler of your choice and use it.

Thanks everyone!

The drum was there because the bassline sounds much better with the drums and sidechain.

:D I'm kicking my overuse of Massive. I didn't realize before how amazing Sytrus is.
