any good dubstep/electro software

Postby oddboy18 » 07 Aug 2012 18:54

So recently my Massive Software kept crashing. I tried rebooting, re-installing, but nothing helps  . I'll be honest I was using the cracked version :? . But heck it was worth it. Is there any good software for dubstep/ electro until I buy the actual thing? thank you.

I assume you're looking for a sequencer. Here's a list of some popular ones out there now

Ableton Live
Pro Tools
Logic
FL Studio
Reason
Cubase

It really doesn't matter what one you choose, it all comes down to your preference of workflow - and pricing.

Massive is also just a synthesizer, you're going to need a host like the ones listed above to actually do something with the sounds

Of course. I use Fl studio. I'm just looking for a good synthesizer. for a good bass sound. The ones that came with the software are week to me. Massive was the best one for me. :D

Ahh okay, I totally misread that

It's not really common, but I hear some people making some pretty nice bass wobbles with regular analog synths like sylenth and 3xOSC

Try giving Reaktor and Z3TA+ a go

Well, if you use FL, then Harmor, a native synth in FL, can be very effective when you combine the right effects with it. I'd specifically recommend WOW Filter, a vowel filter plugin. It's really quite nice to have :D

This is not the answer you want to hear but the one you deserve to hear..

Just. Buy. Massive.

And before you say you don't have the money please list every purchase you have made in the past three months.

Buying software is a lagre part of the key to success in the music industry.

Not really our fault, is it?

Try KVR, there are plenty free plugins. It's not a matter of 'which are good for dubstep' and which aren't, it's a matter of learning how to use synthesisers.

If your ok with paying a couple hundred dollars, I would advise Zeta+2 or Image line Harmor, You can actually make massive like synths in 3xosc, it'll only take some patience, especially with effects, you gotta learn how to use em

When I used the cracked version of massive it used to crash on me after a little while of using it. I've since bought it, but there was a work around for it's crashing, if it's the same problem I was having. Not so sure I'm allowed (by forum rules or legality) to really give that info though, so unless a mod gives me the okay, I have to keep it to myself. :c

Razor is cheap and works pretty good. But Massive is so much better. Both are made by Native Instruments. They make good synths.

Before I got Massive, I tried used DSK Blue. It way fairly decent for a free synth, but was severely lacking. I got a few growls out of it, but that's it.

For dubstep before I got Massive, I mostly did resampling of other growls and industrial sounds. It was pretty effective.

Razor noobs.

As Lav said, any synth will do. If I can get stuff out of 3osc from FL, anything can do. Massive is my best friend, I use it for about 1/2 of everything.

Here's a short, condensed scrambled list of some synths I have or I'm aware that exist:
Synth1, Oatmeal, 3osc, Massive, Razor, Sylenth, FM8, Harmless, and Sytrus.

if you are looking for a great free Synthie, why don't you use the Sytrus? It's more powerfull than many guys think. :)

edit: a very cheap but powerfull Synthie is the Sylenth1, one of my favourite. The 3xOSC is nice too :)

I think Sytrus is "free" if you get the FL version above Producer. Otherwise I'd probably be using it.

And I do recall Oatmeal being a synth I messed around with a bit.

I'm kidding Ironhelm. I just wanted to quote Pinkie Pie (she actually says this in one of the season 1 episodes).

Apparently, you can get wubs in Synth1. I was screwing around when suddenly I got the LFO and lowpass filter to work properly for once.

By the way, Ohmicide is pretty awsome for electro and dubstep bass. It's not a synth, it's multiband distortion. It makes your bass sound very gritty and better for the most part.

To be completely honest, there are a massive array (no pun intended) of synths that work for dubstep and electro sounds. It really comes down to your familiarity with a synth (...or your presets). Pick a synth you like, or a synth suggested to you, and look up some tutorials. Follow the tutorial, and then start modifying parameters. I find that to be an effective learning method. Honestly, I like Noisemaker, Sylenth1, Massive, 3xOSC, and hell, just yesterday, I made a great 'yoi' sound with my microKORG by using the vocoder. That thing is FUN.

People seem to forget that the reasonable versions of FL don't come with all those synths. Demos, yes, but not the actual products.
