Hi. I'm Pony Contaminated, a fairly new brony artist, and I need some song ideas, ideas on getting popular, etc, etc. If you have an idea, please post it. Me and my friend will need it.

Song ideas? well the thing with mlp is there's always a character you can relate with, im going to quote songwriting for dummies here but if your not passionate about the message or idea you want to reveal dont expect anyone else to either but anyway my idea is make a song about rainbow dash being in an alternate universe where shes the student of Celestia and yes that idea is inspired from fanfiction.

I wouldn't think it would be too effective to just ask for inspiration. I think development would go better if it's based on an idea you personally come up with, since you're going to care more than if some guy just says "HAY you should make songs about my super awesomazing OC hurr". Or something. That's what people are like, right? >.>

Also, I think the progression is generally something along the lines of: "Make good music ==> people notice you ==> POPULARTIY GET."
So just keep doing stuff and spread it around as much as possible, I guess. Not really any definitive method on getting popular.

Look into toast beard if you wanna get heard by peers and get song ideas and learn about concept writing. It'a great place to start. Don't ask for people to write songs for you though...

OK I'm going to lay down the hard word right now:

Do not expect this fandom to show you any love. MLR will show you love, your friends will show you love, but the bottom line is this:

The fandom doesn't care about who you are and what you do until you start making music that they actually enjoy.

EqD features about 0.00000000000001% (citation needed) of the brony music that this fandom produces. By all means submit every song that you make, but do not expect them to feature it. The music system has a pre-listener pathway that almost every song passes through (This gets rid of the trolls, and those who are using the bronies to try and claw their way to fame). Your song might make it through that, but it could get lost. Also:

You're gonna have to take the hard road and work knowing that the only path to popularity is 10% skill, 25% inspiration, 40% bloody hard work and 110% luck(citation needed).

What you're doing, in making music, is fantastic and everyone here is so very proud of you. If you become serious about this hobby, you'll just keep on improving. It is fantastic to look back after 12 months, then 24 and maybe even 48 months of glorious music making.

Yeah, Toastbeard is a great way to get ideas. Not only can you try the current week's, but you've got a whole backlog of ideas you can work on just for fun.

Beyond that, potential sources of inspiration abound. Feel a pony is under-appreciated, write for that pony. See a piece of artwork that sparks an idea, write it. Read a fan-fic, watch the show, someone makes an interesting comment in a pony thread, hear a song worth ponifying...

One thing I would recommend doing though is keeping a journal, be it on paper or a text file. You get an idea, jot it down. If you're anything like me, you'll have a longer list of ideas than you have time to make stuff. And then you can cherry pick the best ones or the ones you're in the mood for when it is time to make the music.

Also, in terms of getting featured on EQD, I'd say songs with a more unique sound have a greater chance than songs about Trixie. There's a lot of electronic artists doing house, dubstep, and so on, so the bar to get one of those songs through is a lot higher than it would be in other fields. Of course, you still have to be pretty good regardless.
