Discord (The Living Tombstone's Remix) style synth?

Postby Skybolt » 03 Aug 2012 14:13

Can someone help me make a synth similar to the one used in Tomb's remix of Discord? You know, the one at the beginning before Eurobeat's vocals? If I had to guess it would be distorted squares of some kind, but I really have no idea :/

Um, that could be one of two. If yu're talking about the chords on the 2nd and 4th of each beat, I'm positive that's just a tweakbench peach preset modified a bit. If I was on my computer I'd check which.

It's a square wave with unison applied and some release on the amp envelope.

It isn't a very complex sound.

If the sound is too sharp, add some attack. You can layer a saw underneath, too. I was going to suggest the saw originally but didn't want to overcomplicate things, it just adds more fullness to this sort of sound, but turn the saw down somewhat if you want an accurate recreation.

When your around electronic music enough and messing with synths most of your days then it becomes VERY easy to figure what individual sounds are made of, there are exceptions of course with really complex synthesis but you can always get decently close.

Lavender is spot on too, they are fairly close to pure square waves which are very easy to pick out, the unision is a good call and the release is just the way the synth plays each note (again very easy to hear). There is a little reverb with very short decay to give it a little bit more space from what I can hear.
