<Pony><Original> Canterlot Clubs

Postby the4thImpulse » 15 Jul 2012 09:25

I made this some time ago for the lesser knowns album (vol. 1) and then I got a job working at a summer camp so I have not had the time to upload it to youtube or even post it here.

I would for you all to critique it, be as harsh as you wan't, tell me every little thing you hate about it. I would also like to know what genre you would classify this as, I would call it progressive house but my friends are saying its something else (forgot the name).

The odd chance you want to remix this just pm me.

All I could really offer in the way of criticism is that at times the song sounds a bit unbalanced in terms of frequencies... Like, the higher sounds, specifically the pluck synth, are so prominent that it can sound a little piercing. But beyond that, I really like the track, and think it was one of the more professional-sounding on the TLK album (and the breakdown is absolutely brilliant, too). This is some cool progressive house :D
Youtube -- Soundcloud -- Tumblr -- Bandcamp (new album out!)

I can't feel my brain.

Thanks Colortwelve, there was a lot of synth layering in this track and that pluck had two instances of Z3ta+ each using six Osc's and a more simple synth playing a sub line. There was a lot that could go wrong with that mix and I know I'm am not skilled enough to make it perfect (and I didn't).

That sound (organ?) in the breakdown is my favorite sound I have ever made, again three Z3ta's playing low - mid - high each with a lot of crazy modulation so the sound would keep evolving.

Next time I will watch those piercing high frequencies.

As far as piercing highs go, the important range to keep an eye out for is around the 3kHz region. Humans, as a rule, are hypersensitive to that frequency. If your stuff is too present in that range, knock it down a bit.

Other than that, I don't have much to say. It's a very well done piece, although prog house is typically not my style.

That little bit at the end has me scratching my head, though.

Thanks, I will keep closer watch over those frequencies in the future, I know I tend to over do it there sometimes.

I honestly never even noticed that bit at the end and its leaving me scratching my head aswell, seems like such a rookie mistake to me. I am glad you brought that to my attention or I may never have noticed.

Listening to it again I didn't leave much room for the snare during the huge part at 6:25 and on and its kinda bothering me, does anyone agree or does it sound fine even if it wasn't my intention?
