Do you listen to your own songs?

Do you listen to your own songs?

Postby Hangin' From A Cloud » 27 Jul 2012 14:19

That is when you are not working on them.
Or have you heard them enough for a lifetime when making it?

I know I do sometimes. But then I always notice some small error and I have the urge to go and correct it immediately. That's the downside if it, can't really enjoy it without being very critical about it.

Yeah, I listen to my songs all the time when I'm driving down the road, it lets me compare it to "professional" work and such, especially since i'm very nit-picky when it comes to perfecting my song.
DAW: Ableton Suite 8.2

I do this a lot, mainly to see what's wrong with it that I can work on in the next song.

I listen to my own stuff all the time, and I have no idea why. Ostensibly, I suppose, it's because I want to listen for my own errors, but I listen to them so much that even the errors become an inextricable part of the music to me... I think I have a problem

I'm pretty proud of my work, so I do listen to it occasionally. When I'm working on something, I usually overplay it and hammer it into my head, obsessing over errors and such and planning on how to fix them. Once an album is done and my obsessive period is over, I usually just let others enjoy it, hear the feedback, and take a good few months off from listening to my own material.

It depends on how recently I made it. Once I've finished something I immediately go into self loathing mode, but usually after 4 months or so I can listen to it again. I still pick out things I should've done differently, but the initial anxiety of "Should I have even bothered making this?" has passed at that point.

I do often, and then I listen to other music and try to understand how they got a certain sound.

This may be egotistical, but I find my own music very soothing and it helps me to think.

Just by coincidence, I'm listening to one of my songs right now. Not because I'm looking at it critically, just because I like how it sounds.

I find it extremely difficult to listen to one of my songs right after I finish creating it. Usually a couple weeks later I give the song a listen and see my mistakes :P

Heh. I do almost the exact opposite. I'm really happy and semi-proud about a new song that I've made, and then a week later I realize that the song sucks like shit and never listen to it again.
Well I'm pretty much done with this site (it wasn't about the April Fool's joke I actually loved that). If for some reason somebody wants to contact me or something (not like any of you even care lol):
