<pony><original> Monarch (orchestral)

Made for Ponycraft, the Chrysalis Boss Battle Theme.

Youtube stutters right at the beginning, but that's not in the actual song.

Check out PonyCraft too, if you have time! http://ponycraft.forumatic.com/

I don't pretend to be anywhere near qualified to critique music or art, so take this for what it's worth. This is probably going to sound massively hypocritical, too, since I haven't made anything worth crap.

I like it a lot, but the overall mix seems a little bit unbalanced, with the occasional section where the melody is obscured by a harmony, bass, or drum line. The drums in the beginning are good, and add nice accents to the violin (?) section's repeated theme, but the space between them seems like it could be used to add direction and buildup to the piece, so you may want to move the bass sounds earlier and make them more prominent. You may want to reduce the resonance in the drums, too, since they sometimes sound like they are being played on an empty stage. The melodies and harmonies and how they fit together is very good.

tl;dr- Excellent. Check the effects of the hall size on the instruments and add more direction and shaping to the overall piece, maybe some crescendos and decrescendos, especially in the bass instruments.
I'm gone, and not coming back.

Like EnnervateIndustries, I don't really feel justified in judging anyone else's work, but here are my thoughts:

I think it's great! However, I felt that most of the time the percussion was a bit too loud and that the ending was a bit abrupt, but I understand that it is probably meant to be looped. As a string player, I really liked the violins, but I think you should move them around more and double them with more violins at an octave above to get them to pierce through more during their low sections and from an octave below to make them more substantial during their high sections. I also believe something similar could be said for the trumpets at some parts, but at smaller intervals than an octave. I think doubling the violins and trumpets will give the music more of that epic orchestra in a concert hall feel.

Those are all really good ideas, unfortunately, the song is finalized as it is. For my next orchestral piece, I'll definitely keep them in mind, thanks!
