Alrighty, here ya go, guys: :D
MLP Album Collab Lyrics (WIP)

I've enabled comments in case anyone wants to offer me some criticism. :)

This document also contains little notes from me about what the tracks themselves could sound like to accommodate these lyrics. They're merely suggestions, of course, since I often imagine the tempo and a a basic chord progression when I write these.

The lyrics for Track 3 (the Rarity track) are still being worked on, but I love the title of the track and lyrical idea behind it - it'll definitely be interesting to discuss that in some more depth.
Track 7 is obviously going to be a monster, so I've written quite a lot for that one. However some bits may require some more work and I'm not 100% happy with the whole thing so far.
Track 10's lyrics are also still being worked on. The Count of Tuscany is a brilliant track so it's been fun taking the ideas from that track and translating them to match the plotline of Luna Eclipsed. :D

It's been fun writing these overall. If anyone wants to shoot me some feedback or further ideas, please do so - I'll also try and get Skype up and running soon if you guys would prefer to chat over that. :P

I cannot express how happy it makes me that our lyricist is so into progressive music :D

A "The Count of Tuscany" esque song? I'm excited to hear it. That's another one of my favorite songs :D

I'm just happy that Jimmy's rolling with it, because of all the tracks I pitched, that one was by far the most vague

Also, OP has a link to the tracklist, complete with as many details as we could come up with for each song.

A lot of people who were already there ended up getting turned down. We had way too many volunteers anyway, and at this point it looks like if this does come together, it will only just barely do so.

By the way, a couple questions:
-Kyoga, are you gonna get back to the intro once TLK is over?
-How exactly are we gonna go about writing the music for this?
--On that note, should I be coming up with melodies and progressions, even though I don't actually get how to write in any time signature other than 4/4?

It's basically all I ever listen to, so yeah.

colortwelve wrote:-How exactly are we gonna go about writing the music for this?

It would be friggin' amazing if we could come up with something similar to Symphony X and Dream Theater's latest album(s). I for one would like to contribute to the songwriting process by offering any ideas for riffs or progressions that I can come up with. Since my medium is plain ol' MIDI, it would be up to the guitarists (which I am not) to give it the relevant balls. Would this be allowed? :)

I actually saw that you posted a 40-minute MIDI recently, and that you actually have a big archive of MIDI files. Might we dip into these resources for the project a bit? :D

Please do! :D

Here are some of the MIDIs I've worked on recently (all for various Doom community projects) that pull inspiration from the progressive metal genre, especially Dream Theater:

Atomic (SX's "Sea of Lies")
Geometry (SX's "Rediscovery, Pt. 1")
Liquid Luck (DT's "The Test That Stumped Them All" and "The Glass Prison")
Scattered Ashes (DT's "Lost Not Forgotten" and SX's "Pharaoh")
Tartarus Plains (everything by DT on "Systematic Chaos" [see this video's description])
Through the Void (DT's "Constant Motion")
Vinefort (SX's "The Walls of Babylon" and "Electric Messiah")

If any of these ideas take your fancy, let's discuss them. :)

Still a diehard Doomer, Kyoga? Awesome. Obviously the Doom community has its share of bronies, but they're not very vocal overall.

Oh yeah and here's some more since I forgot about these:

Aztec Gods (probably SX's "The End of Innocence")
Darkness Calls (SX's "Sea of Lies" again)
MDK (probably SX's "Fallen")
Relics (dunno lol)
The Raven's Nest (SX's "The Eyes of Medusa" and DT's "The Ministry of Lost Souls")

I can't get a good metal guitar tone with my VSTs. Help me...

My mic might be broken, so I have to record DI.

Doom, you say? I do that doom thing. 8-)

Should you ever need someone on a collaboration like this again, I would love to lend the effort of Blacksoul Seraphim (my little funeral doom project) to the mix if possible. www.reverbnation.com/blacksoulseraphim

Of course, with any luck, I'll have my black metal swing tune, The Changeling Boogie ready to present, as well.

Alright.

-Whitetail is in.
-Chromatic and I need to get off of our respective asses and finish our Aviators remix.
-George agreed that we should set up an exclusive Skype group chat for only members of the project, in order to minimize distractions.
-I'd suggest poking George on Skype so that he makes the group chat ASAP so that we don't have to wait for me and Chromatic.
-I also really want this shit done. For the love of God, let's get our lineup going and at least get something rolling.

I know I'm not involved in this, and I'm not asking to be, but would you consider doing something like this? You may have already discussed it, but if not, then here you go.

This could work.

Except I would make the guitars much heavier, get a djent guitar tone, use my 8 string guitar, play faster, play the riffs in odd time, and center the song more around metal than dubstep. Djentstep. And it would need a guitar solo.

Cool. Send me tabs whenever you finish them. I also plan to solo a few times on the album.

What tuning should it be in? Drop B, drop C, or C# standard? Drop B probably makes the most sense for this.

I'll start writing some djenty riffs. I'm also going to try to get a decent djent guitar tone.

Should this be fast paced like DnB or slower like dubstep? Dubstep= 140bpm ; DnB=160-180bpm.

That being said, I'll take care of drums and dubstep bass (via resampling). I'll try to get damn close to a Transformers sound on the bass.

Will this song have vocals? Please say yes. If yes, what will they be about?

If you plan on joining me with guitars, then I can't use my 8 string. So I'm going with my normal guitar.
