<Pony><Original>Show Us All (Trixie)

Postby Raddons » 30 Jun 2012 12:29

Okay, I'm done with posting music here for a while until my next song is done. I'm starting to feel pushy ever-so-slightly

I've heard this song so many times I'm indifferent about it. I loved it a week or two ago, so I guess that's a good thing.

Any words kind or not-kind about it would be nice.

Interesting track, I like the way you elaborate on the basic melody, and the mixdown's really quite nice :D

However:
-The strings sound a tad generic, if you get my meaning.
-The kick tends to get lost in the louder sections. This tends to be solved by both having a slightly punchier kick and compressing said kick.
-The breakdown/drop cycle sounds repetitive by the third time it's gone off, but you sort of salvage that by switching it up at the end. But I feel like this song could've been shorter but just as effective.

So, y'know, a few issues, but it's a pretty nice track regardless. Nice job :D

I can't feel my brain.

Pardon, I was taking a History exam. I normally would have responded sooner

Yeah, the strings are god-awful. I need to stop using the samples that came with FL :?

Alright. I didn't even notice the kick getting buried so deep. Hmm... I need to get better with compressing each individual drum. I'm going to start practicing that.

And yes, I am terrible with repetition  It bugs me to no end. I know it's something I have to work on, but it's so tough for me.

But thank you! I'll take notes of all these flaws and improve them next time. I appreciate it.

Yeah there's real mixing issues to this track. You really need to eq it (better) if you aren't doing that yet. The samples are getting drowned out, the drums are too. Overall song construction is ok but the mixing needs a lot of work. If you really haven't done much with that start reviewing mlr and youtube instructionals as that will help your music immensely but there's no easy quick instructional for a good mix. I think you're also using a limiter far too much as your tracks surge and get squished sonically as they appear to keep maxing continually. You need to turn down everything down and use a limiter only if a OCCASIONAL tracks spike into postitive territory. EQ and pan so every instrument can be at the right volume and be heard and not conflict with each other.

I also have a checklist in my signature that may point to some pointers of other things you can do when you create a track that could open up other possibilities if you want to take them.

Y sorry man. Just remember there is a learning curve with this and its best to upload on youtube a finished track then a wip with some issues. Some people have soundclouds exclusively for WIPs and to get feedback before they polish it up, others just make it private beforehand and get feedback that way. Important thing is to work on finishing a proper track even if that takes another week or two as uploading something with issues will just mean that people might not tune in to hear your music again. Try to wow them every time you release a track. Be like Trixie!! :D

No need to be sorry haha. I knew it was bad, but I didn't think it was that bad. Evidently, my ear isn't the best and I have tons to learn. Thank god I'm starting school for this in the fall.

Does ninja bumping work here? Eh, I'm not going to try.

Is this version in the post above better at all? I've been trying to take a break the past few days, but I just keep coming back :?

I can't comment on the mix because I didn't hear the original. I do love it though.

Excellent use of cuts! When trixie says "Show us all" I got the "That guy just said the title of the movie" goosebumps feeling ;)

Ah, I suppose this would have been nice to have too.

Thanks. I'm quite fond of that part as well. I enjoy breaks like that. They add some nice tension.

The new version is definitely better than the first mix. Much more pleasant to listen to ;)
