Cubase

Postby Gnarrkhaz » 29 Jun 2012 06:25

I don't know if a Cubase thread already exists because the search function thinks "Cubase" is too common of a word to search for it.

1. Does anyone know if there's a humanize function for MIDI tracks (varies dynamics, length...) like in Reaper? Or do i have to edit all of that manually? Are there plugins available for that?

2. How can i get rid of background noise (especially microphone)? Reaper had a plugin called ReaFir that did the job more or less well.

I'm using Cubase 5 LE by the way.

Thanks in advance.

Well there's your problem. I used to use this for ages, but recently updated to Cubase 6.5...it's amazing how much they left out of the LE version...

In the full version, there are many filters you can use to remove background noise...dunno about the humanizing part, I tend to just do that manually...

I hoped that i don't need all of that fancy stuff that comes with the full version but i definately need to find a way to ged rid of background noise.....Mh, the noise gate didn't work as of lately because the noise was too loud but i fixed that. Maybe it does the trick now. I'm going to try that out. LE also comes with a "step filter" and a "dual filter" whatever those are. I'm going to look into those as well.

ReaFir is really awesome! You can get it for Cubase as well: http://www.reaper.fm/reaplugs/index.php

Those aren't going to help you with removing noise. Noise gate is the way to go for that.

By the way, why did you leave Reaper?

For the humanizing part, look up tutorials here on VST Expression: http://www.soundonsound.com/cubase

Your PDF manuals should also discuss VST Expression, and give a general overview of what it does, and what you can do with it.

That coupled with micro controls are 2 ways you can really beef up the humanization part of a track, but I'm not sure if either of these features are supported in the LE version.

Evaluation time was over. It was fun while it lasted but now i have the Cubase light version because it came with the Lexicon Alpha Audio Interface so i'll just use that for a while until i feel i need a more professional program (which may never happen). Then i'll consider buying Reaper.

Most of the time when i load up a third party vst (insert effect) the whole program just freezes. What's up with that? Does anyone have similar experiences? My specs shouldn't be the problem. It also happens when i only have one channel and no other effects activated. I run it on Windows XP 32bit. I guess that may be relevant. I've looked for updates already but there aren't any for the LE version.

I use Cubase 6.5 in 64bit and it does freeze when a new vst is loaded, but only for literally about 2 seconds...when you say freeze, I assume to the point where it can't be used? If so that's lame...and I never had problems like that when I was on LE5...

Exactly. I'm thinking of buying a new pc. I had similar problems in Reaper already (you know, that program that is supposedly absolutely stable) before i reinstalled the whole pc just to be able to complete my newest project at the time. The pc used to run slow as sh** after having edited for 2 hours or so (sounds like a RAM problem; i changed the pagefile but i don't know if it worked), it used to automatically restart my pc (!?), blue screens, it crashed when i opened a new project. It was a mess and i'm sick of this.

It appears i chose an expensive hobby.
