Looking for an artist's name.

Sports, politics, movies, videogames, questionable hobbies, photos from your family vacation, etc. Talk about stuff that isn't ponies or music. But do try to stay on topic and respectful of alternate opinions.

Looking for an artist's name.

Postby Navron » 14 Apr 2012 22:57

I think I've finally decided that I want to branch off into doing both pony and non-pony music, but I'm obviously not going to ever branch off into the actual music scene with a name like Navy Brony, so I'm looking for some feedback on some names I've considered.

Overall, I think I have a pretty unique sound, judging from many comments people have made over the past few months. A mixture of heavy industrial riffs and dark, atmospheric textures. Thus, I want to create a name that has some sort of meaning to the music. Here's a couple I came up with (Freakin Myspace bands take up the dictionary.) Please let me know which one you like more, or feel free to make your own recommendations.

Ruminotif (Combination of ruminate and motif. A pondering of a central theme.)
Etherhythm (Combination of ether and rhythm. A heavenly rhythm.)
DAW: Cubase 6.5, Ableton Live 8
Preferred Genre: Industrial/Trance
Hardware: Schecter Diamond Series Bass, Yamaha Acoustic Guitar, BP355 Effects Pedal, Keystudio 49K Keyboard, Akai APC40, Korg nanoKEY2 25k Keyboard

I like Ruminotif a lot, but if you hadn't explained the wordplay behind it I would have had no idea how to pronounce it; even when you did, I had to read it a once or twice more before it clicked. Etherhythm rolls off the tongue easier and, in my opinion, better reflects your sound.

As an artist name, Etherhythm is better.
Both are original, but Etherhythm is easier to say because it only has 2 (3 if you count the 'y') and Ruminotif has 4. That's my theory behind it, anyway. XD

My vote would be for Etherrhythm between the two but in all honesty I dont reaally like either of them, I have no suggestions to add, and those names are not 'bad' but I dont think they are great (thats my opinion at least).

Blackwater Tone. As long as people don't start associating you with Academi, you're good

I'm really liking Ruminotif, though it is pretty hard to pronounce without that explanation. etherhythm just isn't very catchy in my mind. Out of the two, though, I'd suggest ruminotif.

You're better off working with two separate words instead of a mashup imho. That's if you really need two words really. Personally I'd say that you're better off being personal, I chose my artist name Unsterblich despite it being used because quite frankly, it's me and I would not have anything other than me.

So I think the chosen name shall be...

Navbron

Probably not the most creative, but I think it's got a nice ring to it.

NavyBro - hahaha
Nabrov? sounds russian or something
Navbron - idk, I like colortwelve's idea much better than this
Navron - sweet looking and rolls off the tounge nicely
Novrad - now I'm just getting silly

Or you could do this. Make a ton of collabs using 'vs.' instead of 'with' or 'and'

The only problem with that is I like dissonance and minor chords wayyyy too much.

Navron sounds much better. Thanks for the great suggestion!
