Looking for a guitarist/vocalist? I'll try to help

Postby dastrdlyW » 19 Jun 2012 12:59

I'm looking to test the waters of the music community.

If I had any creative talent, I would gladly be creating music right now, making my own original stuff. However, I don't have the patience to just sit down and play my own stuff and see what sounds good.

But, if anyone wants a guitarist (that isn't really fast 'shredding' or a lot of finger picking on chords), or some kind of vocals (bear in mind the lowest I can go is about the A string on a guitar) I'd be more than willing to record something if you've got the chords/frets/notes/melody, or whatever and help you out. I can use distortion, heavy or light (or none). Just send me a message with what you need and I'll see if I can help. :) I can livestream (however, my mic for livestreaming is my laptop mic, but my mic for recording music is not. Livestream would be merely a live showing of what I can do and does not equal the sound quality you'll get from a recording)

Hell, if you want something original, as a test, I can do that to. But don't tell me "show me what you can do" otherwise, you'll probably just get a mish-mosh of songs I know, or me doing a solo. If that's what you want, I'll record it, but I can get you something ten times better if you say "show me a I-IV-V progression in the Key of E, use the '7' chords (E7, A7, B7)", and I can get you that. Or "Tempo 120, Give me 4 beats of each chord: Am, Em, C, and then 2 beats each for F and E MAJOR this time" and I'll do it.

Or something like that. Some kind of instruction on where to begin, and I'll gladly show you what I can do in that regard.

So yeah, send me a message if you'd like some help, and I'll try to provide you with it. :)

I have Skype and messengers if you'd like to talk there, but contact me privately for those.

I can create an example of what I can do. But the only problem is I don't know what to show/how to go about it. If there's something specific you'd like to see in terms of playing style, guitar tones, etc, I'll show you an example. But if you leave it up to me to decide what to show you, as I mentioned in the post, you'd probably get a few different things that don't sound the best as I don't know what I'm doing when it comes to the actual creating part of music. I mean, I know chord patterns and names, and so if you give me a style to play (bluesy, jazzy, heavy, palm mutes)... yeah, just tell me what you'd like to see.

In terms of vocals, you'd either have to settle with me singing a cover of a song or give me the melody/lyrics you want sung.

I don't know what people want to see, which is why I'm asking if you have something in particular you want to see.

okay, well if you can make a sample like the following, I'm pretty sure you can get yourself out in a hurry.
Alright, I suggest making a small sample of your aptitude in the following categories
These should be something like 20-30 seconds apiece and should be seperate from one another.
(This is for consideration in a lead guitar section)
1. Sweep Arpeggios (as fast as you can and as clean as you can)
2. Picking configurations *as fast as you can pick an arpeggio that transverses between strings*
3. Fingertapping riffs and tricks (make us proud)
4. Tremolo... ANYTHING tremolo.
5. Harmonic improvisation 3rds would be most appropriate, but 5ths are accepted too.
6. Tapping arpeggios.
7. Legato (hammer-ons and pull-offs)
8. Shredding (prefferably with legato)
9. Neck transversions (improvised, transverses from low on the neck to high on the neck)
10. (bonus) play the diatonic scales (aeolian, phryggian, dorian, etc.) in a straight and boring fashion using ACCURATE PICKING, so picking goes consistently up-down-up-down, no matter what string you're on. Understanding how to pick properly is incredibly important)
(This is for consideration as a rhythm guitarist)
Find a song that you enjoy from each of the following genres and play a 20-30 second segment of that song so that we understand what your best genres are.
1. Jazz
2. Rock
3. Metal
4. Fusion
5. Neoclassical
6. Djent
7. Speedcore
8. Grindcore
9. Psychedelic Rock
10. Arian Classical (this is bonus, if you're interested)

Remember, for these you're playing the Rhythm guitar part of the song. Whichever you choose.
And don't fret about the size of the assignment, the point is that you pick your favorites and the ones you're best at and go with them so that we know and understand what your favorites are and what you're most comfortable with.

have fun. :D

I can do very short, fast paced sequence of notes, but if you're wanting someone shredding up and down the neck, you won't be seeing that from me. Sweeping again, not my forte. Arpeggios are pretty easy, harmonics... you'll hear some iffy parts, but I'll try. I won't be able to do all of what you suggested, but I will do some. I'm a good guitarist, I'm not amazing like Bronyfied or Forest Rain or TarbyRocks. So don't expect too much of me trying to impress with sick tricks and sweet harmonic bends and trills.

I'll get on to recording as soon as the RAM i ordered for my computer gets here. Whatever is going on, I can't record on it right now. But I definitely will try out. Or, if you want a Livestream Link, I can show you that way, just know that the mic I'm using for that is a webcam mic, but the Mic I use to record is not the laptop mic, so you will have good quality samples when I actually record.
