Broke my arm. :(

I broke my left wrist (Thank god I'm right handed) and I probably won't go to bronycon, which is frustrating because my friends are all going and I live in NJ. I can still type and use the mouse, but I can't play any games. My fingers can barely move without experiencing extreme pain. It's the same with turning my wrist. It's a bummer, but has anyone else broken their arm, or anything else for that matter? If so, how did you cope with it, physically and mentally? I felt the brony community would be the best when it comes to empathy and advice.

That's really bad, and it's terrible you won't be able to go to Bronycon ): I broke my leg about six months ago - I was in a cast for twelve weeks, and I'm still not as strong in the leg I broke. Physically, I can tell you that it's going to take a long time to recover - definitely longer than you expect or the doctors will tell you. But the best way to get full use of your arm back (once it's out of the cast) is to use it as much as possible. I got off crutches as soon as I could and started walking normally. Second, physiotherapy is actually a good idea. It may seem like a hassle, but it'll get your hand back to normal a lot faster. I regret not having done it sooner. And don't be brave - take pain medication whenever you need it.

Psychologically... it's going to take some getting used to. Even with a broken arm, I can imagine that the loss of independence will be pretty severe. I remember bitching a lot and in general being really mean to those who were trying to help me. Part of that was because of the pain, but I was also frustrated by my lack of independence. So my advice is to remember that people are just trying to help you out.

Just like New World Mare said, don't forget that those around you are trying to help. Also, as hippie dippie this may sound, don't forget to keep a bright mood. Your emotions can have a big effect on your healing rate. Staying positive and keeping stress low, along with a good diet and keeping the are protected from more trauma will help you get better faster. Who knows, maybe you would even be bale to go to bronycon by then.

hate to say this but I'm the kinda guy who takes breaking his arm as a trophy or something like YEA i survived that! so far I've broken both wrists. i coup with it by getting really good at using the other hand and doing things one handed. i can write with both hands and use a mouse with both as well.
also sorry to hear about that it sucks when small things like that stop us from doing fun things

I have never broken my arm (i have had more than ten concussions though), but my mom recently broke her arm. And judging form what she told me (she's abroad), it sucked, a lot.

I broke my left arm when I was a kid. Though it was the upper arm and not the wrist. You'll probably have to do more than a little physical therapy to regain flexibility in your wrist. Don't skimp on it. I got an infection in one of my fingers once and had to have it flushed by surgery (not sure what the technical term for that is...) and had to do physical therapy for it to go back to normal. It didn't quite go back to normal though. Mostly because it was an infection and not broken bones, I'd figure. There's a reason why pianists are so careful about their hands. Tendons.

I've broken my left leg about 7 times, but never my arm. My brother has broken both of his wrists twice though- one at a time and both simultaneously - and I know that once you can, you want to be working on rolling your wrist around while holding something to regain that range of motion- however don't try it too soon. You'll end up damaging your arm worse, of course. Just try and keep a positive outlook on the situation.

Might as well go to bronycon. My arm is feeling better and supposedly healing up quickly. Still, there shouldn't be anything too left-arm intensive @ bronycon, so I'll go with my friends.
