I totally would sign up for this, but I don't have any projects that already fit in with this, and I'm bogged down with work as is. Unfortunately, Story of the Blanks technically isn't a fanfic, otherwise I would totally use that track.

I wouldn't say I'm skeptical about this, as it seems relatively straight-forward, but I don't really see why we're trying to get donations? As a thank you to the authors? Shouldn't having a song made about their fan-fiction be a thank you enough?

I'm all for doing a song based on a popular or lesser known fan-fiction, but I really don't see much merit in trying to raise money for the authors.

Is this to help those who can't afford to get to Bronycon? No.
Is this to assist those in financial trouble? Don't recall many authors needing financial assistance.

I'm looking at this more along the lines of previous fundraising albums, including the charity albums, and Balloon Party, which, in a way, was sort of a charity to help those in financial stress get to enjoy something special they otherwise couldn't attend.

The fandom is quite generous with their money, but there has always been a specific cause behind it. This seems more along the lines of, "Let's accept donations for the sake of making a few bucks as thanks," which IMO, devalues what made the other albums special.

Yup, talked it over with a bunch of people in the chat, as well as WestJ. We all agree that this would be best as a free album. We can do up a nice PDF with all the fanfics, bios on the authors, bios on the artists, the songs, the lyrics, etc, etc etc. (And if we wanted, we could throw donation links to the individual authors in it as well.)

FREE ALBUM IS A GO.

(Speaking of which, Skrullz, could you modify the original post in this thread to remove any mention of donations, proceeds, etc?)
