Whitetail uses it.

Most people here don't use it because it's meant more for recording engineers than electronic music producers. It's absolutely unparalleled when it comes to manipulating audio, but I hear less than stellar things about its MIDI sequencer, among other things.

Well, Pro Tools is a quite sterile DAW.
It is VERY hard to Pirate, because they have these usb-lock... things... you you can use ProTools only with an usb-dongle, there is quite a lack of software, which can like emulate this thing. Also expensive.

Only thing it's good for is recording and audio clip manipulation
Don't buy it unless you're doing a TON of audio recording from instruments
and even then I wouldn't main it

not necessarily less just different its for recording and such not electronic stuff

It's just as powerful (if not more if you count in audio editing) as any other DAW
Just frustrating as hell to use.

I have the basic version that came with my midi keyboard. it's pretty lackluster (being the SE version) and that usb dongle thing is rather retarded (so it's for anti-pirating? sigh). Yeah it's not something I really want to play with again or re-install on my newer pc.

Its a bonkers expensive program used by professional recorders. USB is just a clever way of hindering people from pirating. However (If I heard right, from a friend who owns a recording studio) they might be removing that feature eventually.

Dongle's are rather weak as far as anti-pirating goes, it hasn't stopped people from pirating Ableton or EW instruments or etc. etc.

Pro Tools old versions were just even more annoying as it's not a normal dongle but actual hardware that you need, the hardware itself is actually rather useful for A/D converting and recording (I have a Mbox mini) but it'd be nice if I didn't have to lug it around every time I wanted to use my program - not to mention glitches in it's connection has blue screened my computer more than a few times.

Dongles:
They don't stop pirates
They're small annoying and easy to lose
Show the developers distrust in the consumer and just puts a burden on the people who actually do buy the product
