Zombie Apocalypse?

Okay, I'm sure you've heard/seen this being spread around (hehe, virus humor). Apparently, the "zombie apocalypse" is believed to have started in Florida. Now, the stories presented here would definitely suggest such an event, but there are a lot of holes that could be blown in the entire story.

This will likely cause a shitstorm because oh shit guys zombies. However, I read one man's testimony that completely tore it all away.

So, if you've seen this whole conspiracy, then you'd know about the story of a man in Florida who was apprehended chewing a man's face off. The "news" articles located here: FALSE LIES use false science to make their claims.

Now, to completely DEBUNK everything you think about this "zombie apocalypse".

1. A couple of the articles above state that the "zombies" in question were seen to have Necrotizing Fasciitis, which they state is a "flesh-eating disease". Allow my good friend Hank Green to explain Necrotizing Fasciitis, as I'm sure he does a better job of wording it than I could.



2. There aren't any viruses that exist that cause people to crave human flesh. The closest thing you could perhaps get to this would be a sort of "mad cow" for humans (often endearingly referred to as "mad human"). This disease, however, is caused by cannibalism, it doesn't cause it.

3. At least one of the articles linked to above claim the virus has been tagged as "LQP-79". Let me stop you right there. "LQP-79" is NOT valid virus notation. Even if it were, it wouldn't be a human virus - it wouldn't even be a vertebrate virus.

It would be a caterpillar virus.

If you STILL don't believe me after the presentation of this evidence, then feel free to read this: Seven Reasons why the Zombie Apocalypse would Fail Quickly. It supplies a variety of rather scientifically sound reasons as to why a zombie apocalypse would never occur, even if zombies were to exist.

So there. Y'all can stop worrying now.

P.S. I don't know if this should really go in the "Community" board or not. I didn't want to put this in the spam thread due to the risk of it being simply overlooked by the majority of people. I figure if I am to prevent mass hysteria (which would be more dangerous than zombies), then I feel it is deserving of its own thread.

But in all seriousness zombies could never happen, at least not in the sense where you die and then come back to life to eat other people. I could understand something along the lines of the rage virus from the 28 days/weeks later film being manufactured in a secret government facility. That virus would really only make people want to simply kill everyone anyway they can which means the 'zombies' or infected people wouldn't just use their mouths to attack.

If there were a zombie apocalypse the best (and only) way to ensure survival would be to run away far into the hills (If you could plan in advaced you would already have a structure built and supplies).

If anyone wants a good zombie book you should check out both "The Zombie Survival Guide" and "World War Z" both by Max Brooks.
